LCG Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Hello all. Wondering if anyone has any input as to the sensitivity of Yo Zuri hybrid line. Looking at trying 12lb for an all around casting set up. Mostly Texas rigs and spinnerbaits in pond and small lakes. Been experimenting more this year with line choice. Was braid to leader for the longest time, tried big game a lot this year and like it, but could use a bit more sensitivity. Tried Flouro, but more trouble than it was worth. 10lb big game has been amazingly strong, caught a 42" pike weighing about 20lbs on a medium power rod, that fish fought hard and dove deep. Line held up with no issue. Caught a few 5-6lbers in a pond and it hasn't let me down. But I could use a bit more sensitivity. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted December 12, 2021 Super User Posted December 12, 2021 I have and still use both 12 lb YZH and 10 lb Big Game. I see little difference in sensitivity. It’s not like braid for sure. But it has its uses. When I need new line, I’ll likely stick to BG. It’s great line for the $. 2 Quote
Super User MickD Posted December 12, 2021 Super User Posted December 12, 2021 I used to use YoZuri hybrid for bait-casting, 12 and 14 pound test if I remember correctly. I left it since it seemed so stretchy, like using a rubber band (yes, exaggeration). My current favorite is Suffix Elite. I'm using 14. I have not noticed the stretchy sensation. Elite casts every bit as well, maybe better than the YZ, and MUCH better than braid or FC. Quote

Definitely exaggerated as by FryDog's test a few years ago, YZH had the second least stretch of all the mono/FC/copoly lines he tested dry...and the least stretch when wet. 12# YZH is my go-to for my crank-rig and I'll be putting it on my jerk-rig this year as well. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 12, 2021 Super User Posted December 12, 2021 I used 15# YZH for jigs, Texas rigs and moving baits for a few years. I could definitely feel the tap, tap, tap of a bite. I switched over to Big Game, and never noticed any difference in the sensitivity. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted December 12, 2021 Super User Posted December 12, 2021 That's my story and I'm sticking to it. As is always mentioned on this forum: "I must have had a bad batch." ? I really like the Suffix Elite. 2 Quote
newapti5 Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 My experience with Yo-zuri Hybrid includes 6lb and 8lb on spinning/baitcasting reels, as well as 10lb and 12lb on baitcasting reels. IMO it's right between fluoro and mono, no matter the sensitivity, the memory, the stretchability, the transparency, or the buoyancy. It's a perfect comprise between fluoro and mono. Given its low price and sensitivity, it is a good substitute of fluoro in bottom fishing technique. It's crazy strong, but has a larger diameter. I use it according to its diameter instead of the poundage. 2 Quote

I like YZH. Used it for most everything for years. Great value. But, whatever trouble you had with fluoro may be similar with same diameter YZH. I switched mostly to Invisx or braid/leader, but I still have YZH on a couple rods. I find Invisx to be quite a bit more sensitive than YZH, but much of that could be in my head. YZH used with KVD L&L is tough to beat when you consider price. 1 Quote
LCG Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 Well I have a new Shimano Curado 70 MGL HG on the way that I plan on pairing up with a recently bought Fenwick Elitetech Small mouth rod I picked up earlier this year. This combo will be mainly for light reaction lures, 1/4- 5/8oz. Guess I will pick up a spool of yo Zuri and add it to the ever expanding box of line I have going Thanks everyone, always appreciate other people's experience. Quote

If you're going light - then drop the pound test. 8# YZH would be sufficient - 10# if you're a bit worried. 1 Quote

Never mind the line...where did you get an ETSM?? Quote

I fish a variety of areas, but a fair amount of laydowns, under trees, weeds, etc. Can 8-10lb yo Zuri handle it? 10lb big game has done very well, but I did have a bit of fraying. Big game being so cheap it's no big deal to respool once a month. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 12, 2021 Super User Posted December 12, 2021 8#, you can pull up a good sized branch....10#, you can pull up a small stump 2 Quote

I remember reading about these rods and they seem to have gotten rave reviews and the guy only wanted $100 Canadian and only 30 mins away. So figured why not. Rod was brand new, never used, still in plastic. It's the 6'9" M-XF model rated 3/8-5/8oz. But it's a bit of a unicorn. More of a fast action than extra fast, Super short handle at 11.5", rod length from the reel to the tip is like most 7ft rods. Lure rating is more like 1/4-3/4oz. Mainly been using war eagle finnese spinnerbaits 5/16oz = 1/2oz real weight and up to 1/4oz Texas rigs plus plastics. Rod has been awesome and super comfy. Only thing is the handle is super short too, so it's most comfortable to have one pinky behind the trigger and palming the reel a bit different than I am used to. Was paired with a SLX 70 MGL, but looking for just a bit smaller frame so hence the Curado 70 MGL purchase. I might just spool up the SLX with braid and use it soley for light Texas rigs on my Carbonlite 6'6 M-F rod. 40 minutes ago, MN Fisher said: YZH isn't that expensive either - $10 for 600yds at TW. Here in Canada, everything is ridiculously more expensive. Big game around $15 for big spools. Yo Zuri is $17 for small spool. No big spool options up here. Shipping/Duty from the U.S. is crazy too. 2 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 12, 2021 Super User Posted December 12, 2021 Nice find. I snapped my only ETSM casting rod when I got a big catfish to the surface and he dove under my kayak. That was my skipping rod...6'10MF....loved it, though I did have to have the reel seat 'fixed'. I still have a spinning version I use for Senkos. 1 Quote

That's the problem when you find a rod you really like that's not made anymore, hard to find a replacement and then the never ending search I have heard of the reel seat lock coming loose and seen a few of them when I went to buy an elite Tech in stores a few years back. They all had this problem. My understanding though is that it's an easy fix, clean, sand, and re-apply epoxy to secure the metal piece back to the rod. So far so good on mine. Plan on marrying the Curado and the Elitetech together, so it shouldn't be too stressed other than once a year reel cleaning. Quote
zell_pop1 Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 I use to like YZH, then when the green colored line went on clearance on TW I got bad spools of line, so have not used it in several years and went with Sunline Defier, McCoy and Gamma copolys. Anyway it is strong for it's diameter with good knot strength and decent sensitivity provided you get a good spool. Also i like the #10 best it casts better than the #12 and is plenty strong. BTW it is not bigger line diameter than most and yet it gets stated alot here. Sufix Elite and Siege are .014 at #12 so is Big Game, YZH is .013 as is McCoy and Gamma. 1 Quote

Will grab a spool and give it a try. Thanks 1 Quote
Chet C Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 does anyone know if Big game is available in 4 and 6lb test, i normally use these 2 lines for crappie and panfish che Quote
garroyo130 Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Im sure some will disagree but the smoke color YZH is something magical. I bought several spools when Sports Authority was going out of business and it was incredible line ... when i had to restock, I had to purchase regular ol clear and the magic was lost. I'd like to think its all in my mind but i still have some smoke color spools left and head to head there does seem to be a difference in how they manage. 1 Quote

Used to work with extruded nylon and similar materials, and the color always made a difference in the characteristics of the final product. 2 Quote

I think 8# for sure especially if that’s a M power rod. YZH 8# is as thick and as strong as others 10#. Quote
ironbjorn Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 For me I only go, "wow, that's sensitive" with braid. YZH is an excellent line and is basically the same as any other in the sensitivity department. It's strong, ties good knots, and is super manageable if you spray it down with KVD L&L. Quote
