Tube heads 90 vs 60

Pros and cons 90 vs 60 degree angle tube jigs 

Where and when would you fish them. 
 

I’ve  only fished the 90 degree head.

I like 60° for dragging and just hopping slightly, 90° if I am ripping it off the bottom.  Don't know if it is just me but feel like dragging it with a 90 it gets hung up more, but could just be me.

Well that’s exactly how I fish my tubes, glad to get the 60 as well

I have been making tubeheads to sell out our local winter shows and everyone wants something different.  Its split on the 60 versus 90 as to what people want.  Personally I don't like 90 degree heads unless I am fishing vertically in 15+ FOW.  That said I have also started making stupid tube heads for a local guy that contacted me.

I prefer the 90 as they give the tube that good, spiral action. The 60 really impairs it, but not as much as an internal weight and a EWG hook does.

100% agree!!!! I have used both and I seem to have more success with the 90 degree.  A 60 degree is great for dragging a tube but as papajoe222 mentioned the spiral action you get on the fall mostly disappears.

I fish'em stupid rigged nearly always. 60 degree flat eye EWG. Do-It shakey head mold without the screw lock. Comes through rock great with an excellent hookup ratio.

I fish em slow on bottom. So it sounds like the 60 is better for the way I fish

I prefer the 60's, but certainly don't have good data to back up my preference.  Keep in mind that tubes can be fished with other types of jigs, too, with the hook entering right at the front and coming out farther back, with the jig head outside.  Even the pivoting/loose jigs, which give another  different action.  A recent article in In-Fisherman leads one to believe that smallies get conditioned to familiar lures, so new/different approaches may lead to more fish.  Aquarium fish have indicated that they learn to avoid unpleasant consequences.  Food for thought.

Thanks for the knowledge. I'll have to try out 90s to build my confidence with stroking. I currently use 60s but only have decent experience with dragging tubes on hard bottom, almost exclusively with a fat goby head.
