I used those things a lot back in the day .  My most memorable experience with one , I was anchored above a rock dike on the Mississippi river tight lining for cat fish . I tied a shallow diver on and tossed it on top of the dike then engaged the reel and let it set there with the current providing the resistance .  That thing was staying in place, ricocheting back and forth atop the rocks and enticed two nice channel cats to hit it . Caught a lots of bass on them .  I dont have any more of the squarebills left but I'll find one some day . The thing I like about the old timey cranks is they are either silent or have a subtle knock that are more preferable to me than the more belligerent baits that came along later .

I still have some of those. I remember responding to an add in a fishing mag (can't remember which one) that were sold in a six pack, all were different color schemes. Can't remember the price, but it had to be a good deal if i got them.

I only have one left. It's a shad colored one that is the wife's favorite crank and she is the only one allowed to use it...........she thinks.  If I ever loose it, I'll be sleeping in the car for a long, long time, or until I locate another one.
