The Baron Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 We wrapped up our bass fishing in mid-October, which was a lot later than previous years as that's well into the hunting seasons. Deer season is over for us now (I don't bow hunt much), which marks the beginning of winter for me. Goose hunting goes until end of the year and we can/will hunt coyotes all winter, as well as rabbits. We're not in a particularly cold part of Canada, but we're getting snow and it's a long haul until we're out the other side in about mid-April. I enjoy a bit of winter hunting (on select days), but this year more than ever I find myself really missing the warm weather and bass fishing so it's gonna be a long winter. ? I will spend some time researching/looking for a portable fish finder, so we're better armed next year - no more floating blindly over where the contour maps say the shoals are supposed to be. Odds are I'll end up buying some other gear I really don't "need" - cold nights, whiskey and online shopping are a dangerous mix. lol 6 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 9, 2021 Global Moderator Posted December 9, 2021 I do believe I'd be doing some ice fishing if I lived where it was an option. We get the bad mix of too thick to break through with the boat, but not thick enough to walk on type ice on our lakes. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 9, 2021 Super User Posted December 9, 2021 Growing up in New England as a kid I couldn't wait for the lakes and ponds to freeze over. Pond hockey was so much fun back then. On weekends we'd have a bonfire along with a hockey game. One year after Christmas, we went around from neighborhood to neighbor and collected Christmas trees for 2 weeks and lit up 240 trees on the pond one night. ? I miss those days. Quote

We still do that with Christmas trees but less that 240 and in a cow pasture instead of on a pond Quote

The 240 was a 1 time thing. Everyday a bunch of us ran the neighborhoods and collected trees for 2 weeks. It wasn't worth the money spent on gas collecting them. Back in those days we ran 8 cylinder gas guzzlers. ? Quote

When I turned 16 I was able to drive it where ever I wanted - I just had to replace whatever gas I used. Even at $.40/litre (about $1.50/gallon) in those days I never went too far. lol 1 Quote

Between my Camaro with a 350, hockey sticks and skate sharpening, I wasn't exactly saving a lot. ? 1 Quote
