thewhitelotus Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Been looking at picking up another reel to use as an "all around" type and came across a Team Lew's Lite reel locally in perfect condition for $120. Anyone have one of these and want to share their experience? Originally, I was looking at getting an SLX 151, which after taxes comes out pretty close to the $120 of the Lew's Lite. Furthermore, to really make things indecisive, there's a guy selling brand new Quantum KVD Smoke S3 for $70. I will be fishing mainly for SM from shore with an occasional LM trip in some of the ponds here in Northern Nevada. What do I pull the trigger on? Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted December 8, 2021 Super User Posted December 8, 2021 Get the Lite. Super versatile over a range of baits and compact. P.S. I own/owned each of these reels and actually fished with them. Quote
Phil77 Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 No experience with the quantum, have a slx mgl which is probably close to the same size as the 151. Not a bad reel but I'd take the lews for the price. If it's the silver model with cork knobs that is an excellent reel, has the 4 pin ACB which works great. Quote
newapti5 Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Don't have the first two, but the KVD Smoke S3 I own is definitely a reel for heavy lures. The reel is quite smooth actually, but with a big 36mm(I think?) deep spool, it is not meant for anything under 3/8 oz IMO. I put 15lb fluoro on it and use it for 3/8~1/2oz jigs, a task it performs quite well. About the price, I think I got it from the auction site for 65 bucks, so $70 seems about right, not a crazy price but an acceptable "street" price for that reel. Quote
