whitehackle Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 I am visiting savannah in April next year. And would like some help on where and how to fish. I would like to catch some bass. Where am I best fishing around savannah? What baits and rigs am I best buying? I don't mind buying a bit of stuff, but I don't want to buy anything unnecessary as I will not use it again. I might buy a rod and reel, and take it back to England. Thanks for the help Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 8, 2021 Super User Posted December 8, 2021 I think hiring a guide would be the best bet if you can. I dont know who to recommend in that area though . Good luck. 2 Quote

OkiePapist Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Funny you ask this. I'm about to ask the same thing for just across the border in South Carolina. If you decide not to us a guide. Beside rod/reel, for bass, you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with the following: Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Soft Plastics (creature baits, stick baits (senkos), fluke) Spinnerbaits Swim jig I'd leave it at that. You can catch bass on these dang near anywhere in the US. April should be a fire month as well. Also, you will need to get a non-resident fishing license which you can either buy online or at a WalMart or other sporting goods store. Other than that, a pair of pliers and a good knife are good to have. Cheers mate and good fishing. 1 Quote
whitehackle Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 Thank you very much. I might get a guide for a day, but I am also going to get a rod and have a fish in some of the ponds, I might be able to fish early in the morning before the rest of the family gets out of bed! I would like to do as much fishing as I can 1 Quote

Super User Koz Posted December 11, 2021 Super User Posted December 11, 2021 Find a lagoon, any lagoon and fish. There are literally thousands of them in Savannah and the SC Lowcountry. There are 5+ pound bass even in small lagoons. But you do have to watch out for alligators. If you get yourself a GA fishing license you can also fish Ft. Stewart. There used to be great bass fishing in there, including many double digit bass. You can read more here: https://gon.com/fishing/guide-to-fantastic-fishing-at-fort-stewart For baits, start with a 3/8 white spinnerbait. Try fishing it naked (the bait, not you!) or with a white paddletail trailer. Another great bait is a 3/8 oz chatterbait with a craw trailer. Depending upon the body of water, a slim speed craw works well or a larger Rage tail craw. Try blue and blue or green pumpkin and green pumpkin combos. April is also a great time for a white, 1/2 oz buzzbait with no trailer. Just keep in mind that topwaters can be dinner bells for alligators. Seriously, you don't need a big body of water. Simple 1/2 acre to 3 or 4 acre lagoons are all teeming with big bass. Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted December 13, 2021 Super User Posted December 13, 2021 Yes to the redfish. Strong fighters & good to eat. Win Win. Quote
