wisconsin heat Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Here's a picture of a couple of my favorite jerkbaits. The Xcalibur XS4 was a design that was based upon the smithwick rogue, with some quality of life upgrades, such as a weight transfer system, higher end finish, consistent suspending, and better hooks. Also pictured is the Xcalibur Eeratic shad. The Eeratic shad (XEE4) was the reintroduced version of the original XS4, which was previously discontinued. The Eeratic shad, rebranded by Pradco as an Edwin Evers design, had a few small changes, you can see in the photo that the lip is a slightly different shape, the XEE4 also had a harder nose down suspending position, where the original XS4 suspended more horizontally. Both the XS4 and XEE4, along with I think all of Xcalibur baits are discontinued, as recently some of the Xcalibur line was rebranded by Pradco under the Boooyah brand. Sometime after they were discontinued, I bought a lot of 6 XS4 in the clown pattern. Interestingly, all of the XS4 baits in the lot are misprinted- the logo on the bottom reads XJ4, not XS4. The XJ4 was a topwater lure similar to a Lucky Craft Sammy, called the Jimmy (Jimmy Houston design). Sorry for the not so high quality photo 5 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 12, 2021 Super User Posted December 12, 2021 The top bait isn't unique, it's a Big-O, but the paint scheme on it shows that it is one of the first gen models. The dark one was made by my mom's cousin back when he used to make his own baits. I don't think is has ever been in the water. 7 Quote

Looks like it would be similar to the crank bait. Cool. Maybe I will try and make one. 2 Quote

I’ve had a lot of success this year with a baby rage menace on this head and I think these chunks should work as well Quote

Super User king fisher Posted December 17, 2021 Super User Posted December 17, 2021 One of the few lures I had the in summer of 1977. It was my first crankbait. They were a popular company at the time. Living in the Northwest there wasn't many bass lures in tack shops, only trout and salmon lures. One shop in Spokane carried the Aquasonic brand, so I bought the only crankbait they had. They had a whole line of lures, with holes running through them to produce fish attracting sounds. I don't think the sound helped, but this particular one had a wide wobble the bass liked. I landed my first bass over 5 lbs on one. I found this one on a lot on Ebay one day and bought it even though the other lures in the lot were rusted and worthless. Proving the Bait Monkey is also a collector of old junk. 6 Quote

Maybe they made a spoon out of something else. Still, it's an interesting idea, combining a spoon with curly tails. Not a great execution though. lol 1 Quote

Threads like the found lures thread is amazing and I thought why not let people show off prize lures, swimbaits, hand made or one off lures. That or a big and trailer combo you dont see. To me this is worthy of a frame and hung on the wall. I just love how it looks matched up and by god it catches fish! Good thread. I've been wanting to start a thread for a bit now called Tackle Porn or something like that. I just love looking at baits. Unique or otherwise. I don't know how many times I'll pair a bait with a trailer and just think "oh man, that looks beautiful". I take lots of pictures of my baits, mainly for a reminder down the road if a bait does well for me. But to me they're also a work of art that I just like admiring. Anyways, after click on this thread and seeing your pic, I thought 'that looks quite familiar'. I went back in my picture archives from a few years ago and found this. This Siebert's Shot Caller swim jig rigged up with a Z-Man Goat worked as well as it looks for me this past season. And the Shot Caller with a Rage Menace. Siebert's tungsten jigs with Netbait Paca Chunks. 6 1 Quote

That jackhammer looks familiar too..... haha So you swim the goat and menace with them rigged more like a craw? This is my attempt at small finesse jigs 2 Quote

No, not always. If I'm fishing in shallower water and wanna keep the bait up higher in the water column I'll usually rig them horizontally. Quote
