Ok Ill start with my Combos for big shark fishing from beach and then Ill start about the tackle and leaders and lines.

Ok my first combo is spinning, Rod is UglyStik 15' two piece rod, With Daiwa BG8000 reel which I spooled with 80lb test Braid and topping it with 50 yards of 50lb test CXX. I am using this combo for 1/2lb baits to send out about 150yards out from shore(using my RC Boat). Targeting 5' to 6' sharks(medium size).

Here is the pictures of this combo, Ill add my first conventional combo in couple days than ill show the best in last.

Nice set up -

I'm thinking Long tail rope (and a buddy to hold it) and a 4 foot long hook disgorger.

These crazy guys are all about it.

Thanks, of course, I need to get the hook remover(or build it), We going to get there soon after I am done with combos.

From the beach you will catch more rays and shovel nose sharks the pelagic blue, mako, thresher or baby whites.

Down around Dana Point there is a good chance of a thresher from the jetty. Redondo pier has a few blues occasionally.

You need at least 300 lb wire leader the sharks can't bite through.

Remember you have no idea what will eat your shark bait.

I am not a fan of spinning outfits for big ocean predators.

Good luck and be careful.

My last and main combo and my favorite is Penn 117 (14/0) paired with PCH Rod 150-200lb and spooled with 130lb test braid and 130lb mono topshot. This one have 2000 yards of line and I am going to send it out 300 yards from shore.

I'm looking for a surf rod for sharks right now. Looking for something to throw 4-6 oz rigs and maybe 9'-11' long. I'm not looking to bring in any monsters but maybe 6' max. I want to soak a bait while I inshore fish for snook and redfish. I see a lot of sharks and want to hook one now and then.

Maybe if you get those rigs in the weight room and off the treadmill, that may help? J/K of course. ?

The only shark I ever got into was a few dogfish. No where near what you're going for. Be safe and I wish you luck.

^^^^^^ this is 100% for the west coast, east coast is a hole nother animal. Makos blues, and threshers are accasionally taken off of piers and jetty, I have seen it, but most likely it's easier to catch then on a boat offshore and visually look for them. I run a huge Penn 14/00 with 100lb braid to a steel wire leader, it's a must. Live bait and a huge bobber like bobber fishing for bluegill but it ain't no bluegill

you can get this, the reel is fully sealed and made for saltwater.

I'll check it out. Was leaning towards Daiwa or SC for the rod and a Daiwa BG for the reel. I won't need for a few months yet. Appreciate the link

The Penn Senator 14/0 you posted has lots of potential to catch you a new personal best shark.

Yes we use these too, dollar tree beach balls have also been working very well about the size of a smaller cantaloupe.

Ok now it is time to talk about leader.

I use 11/0 and 15/0 and 16/0 Mustad circle hooks. I pulled out some aircraft cable from my Boeing 737 which we dismantle for a customer. The cables are about 400 to 600lb and use crimper to make it like this:

as you can see I put the weight very close to the hook which it was proven by other shark fisherman to be best arrangement for various reason.

I am going to use spider weight 8 to 10oz like this one:

this is the hooks:

IMG_0794.JPG

Following that is 400lb mono which did crimp again(aluminum crimps), And it will be about 10 yards.

the final product is this one:

Ok we are done with leader, Next step will be how going to do it.

Ok now lets talk about bait boat, This is aqua cat that I was waiting seven months to built and send to me.

This boat have good large size bait compartment that you can easily have 2lb bait it, also you can have up to 4lb hang back there and let the boat tow it.

I use spool of line so you can see the size and mechanism holding the bait.

There is a hiccup when they ship the boat which I will talk about it in my other topic about it.

Always hard to tell in the pics, but your first obstacle might be line drag.

A couple of hundred yards of line (regardless of the type) from the reel to the bait in the boat is heavy and it's going to want to pull the bait off the boat.  You'll need to 'secure' it with something that can also break away when the time comes. Light rubber bands perhaps ?

Might be some trial & error once you're at the beach and launching this rig;

unless you know someone who's got that perfected.

This hatch is solid and it will open by remote or if you program by GPS it will be open on the spot that you want, otherwise there is no way this hatch open by pulling pressure.

in future I am going to bring the boat to lake for training and ill try to show that as well.

Use outrigger break away rollers (Afco Roller Troller) break away is adjustable.

Critique from me is use 7/0 to 9/0 Mustad welded eye hook (like those on my marlin lures) not circle hooks. Also use 2 crimp sleeves.

The big reel doesn’t have very good drags, the International does! Sharks don’t run a long distance but they do swim with lots of power. You need a good drag to turn them.

I have friends that have caught huge sharks from land and I have caught big sharks myself, we all agree that line capacity is extremely important for land based shark fishing. It is common to kayak a bait out several hundreds of yards from the shore in Florida. Have caught big sharks casting from the shore with spinning gear but it is much easier to use big conventional reels and kayak the bait out. Shark fishing from the shore is far more difficult than fishing from a boat. On a boat you can drive up to the shark to recover line, on the beach you just have to hope you can turn the shark around, even then there are sharks that cannot be stopped no matter what reel you have, or how good you think you are.

Add another reel (Avet 80W 2 speed) to my land base shark fishing.

IMG_8093.JPG

IMG_8090.JPG

IMG_8089.JPG

Took the advice from @WRB and remove spinning gears, so international 30 will drop at 100 yards and 14/0 will drop 300 yards and Avet will drop at 250 yards.

the 14/0 have 2000 yards of 130 braid with 250 yards of 130 mono to-shot, Avet have 1000 yards of 130 braid with 150 yards of 130 mono.

International have 80lb braid with 50lb mono topshot.

Edited...should have scrolled up to see the RC bait boat.

Those things are so cool.   You need a GoPro, get a big Shark on film, that would be cool.
