schplurg Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 EDIT To ADD[Someone responded with a "sad" smiley but I don't see it now which is why I wrote this second post.] [Oh I see it's still there on page one, I double posted my story] That's not the sad part. The sad part is that this woman was a horrible person and a few months later her two bigger dogs killed two of the little ones, about a week apart from each other. Me and another neighbor called animal control - I heard the second attack myself and so did they - and one thing let to another and she got kicked out after threatening the other neighbor. She was on one side of a duplex, me on the other and we shared a landlord. Every time I'd BBQ after the chili day the little dogs would sit at the fence hoping for food to fly over towards them. I think they were fine with the chili. I'd see them through a small hole. I think she didn't feed them well. She was the worst neighbor I've ever had by a long shot. Got drunk, stole my mail (I had cameras), got in a fist fight with her son on the front lawn. Cops came over a lot. I think I did the dogs a favor by feeding them every now and then, though. I do admit I hoped the dogs would crap in her house with the chili at first. You had to be there. She was awful. Quote

Its kind of weird but within a couple days of my original post, the incessant barking dog has completely stopped. Maybe they were on bass resource ! More than likely the old man dog shooter called the police. Now if I could just get the nieghbors across the canal on board. They have a new BEAGLE ?. He now leads the 3 dog chorus when they see me come out. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted December 13, 2021 Super User Posted December 13, 2021 Dogs are like children, their behavior is based on who raises them. Some dog owners do a great job with their dogs, others not so much. The apple does not fall far from the tree so if you see a loud obnoxious dog chances are the owner is no better. It is best to let the authorities deal with these rude dog owners. Hope you catch lots of bass and enjoy your fishing trips in that lake. 2 Quote
throttleplate Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 my dad has a small sheltie he adopted. When he brought the dog home after adopting it the darn dog barked at everything that moved. The old neighbor lady called animal controll and they gave my dad a warning. Nothing he coud do to stop it so he had the vet surgically remove the dogs vocal cords. Problem solved. The old lady died a year later and her grand daughter moved into the house with 2 dogs. The girl had her dogs out and dads dog was barking non stop at them. She walked up to the fence and i was home visiting dad she asked me whats wrong with our dogs voice so i told her her grandma called the cops on dads dog about the barking so we had no choice but to cut the vocal cords. Now to this day whenever her dogs bark she instantly calls them inside. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 14, 2021 Author Super User Posted December 14, 2021 Honestly though, I like dogs but really don’t understand them. Why do dogs bark at the same people they see every day? You’d think that eventually they would figure out that this man walking around in his own yard means them no harm, or that he isn’t interested in whatever they want or need. I have tried talking to them, whistling to them, heck I tried barking back at them the other day. Nothing works. So There’s always the owner. They are otherwise good nieghbors, but I just know that would ruin what relationship I have with them to mention the dogs. It’s not against the law for them to be out there in their own back yard during the day. And they do keep them in at night. so… here we are.??♂️ Quote

Most likely you are being 'greeted'. That's how they do it. They are not concerned with whether you like it or not. If the animals are not a threat, simply ignore them. Good chance they might start ignoring you too. A-Jay Quote

A-Jay I DO ignore them 95% of the time, and they eventually quit barking but every time I move they start up again. The owners let them out and take them in every 15-20 minutes. If I’m still out there, the same thing happens over and over. Im very blessed to be able to live there though. At the end of the day , it’s mostly all good. Just not perfect lol. Quote

Gets pretty loud in the kennel. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 15, 2021 Super User Posted December 15, 2021 Neighbor across the alley at the house in Wisconsin has 2 dogs. The dogs will bark for hours if we're out in the yard. My dummy feels bad because I'm the reason the dogs are barking and disturbing the neighborhood. Quote

I have to tell our customers everyday to quit pondering why animals do things. “Why did the squirrel chew into my house and not my neighbors??? They don’t even cut their grass correctly!” My reply is usually something like “Ma’am, I’ve captured the squirrel. I’m going to take it downtown for some questioning and we will get back to you with some answers.” 3 Quote
schplurg Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 One possible reason dogs bark: Delivery person approaches door. Small Chihuahua : "Yap yap yap yip YIP!!!!!" Deliver person delivers package and walks away. Small Chihuahua, thinking he scared person : "That's right, run away you $%&@#!" Monster created. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 19, 2021 Author Super User Posted December 19, 2021 Those are the worst. My daughters one lived with us the last 5 years of her life. I think at the end she still didnt know who I was or why I was there. If she was near the front door any day I came in , it was on. As if she had never seen me before. Not your friendly “ welcome home “ bark , but the “ I hate your guts” bark. My cat couldn’t stand her either. They got into some classic showdowns. She died this year and they buried her out back and ( of all things ) , put a Georgia bulldog logo on her grave marker. ( Her name was georgia) Very fitting. I did not attend the funeral… 1 Quote
