Sfritr Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 When I winterized my boat I filled the tank and added Marine StaBil. Yesterday I finally got the boat out, changed the lower unit oil, put on the muffs and fired up the engine. She started like she was brand new. Heres my question: Do I need to empty the tank before adding SeaFoam? I seem to remember a thread about it that stated you should not mix the two. Thanks everyone Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 18, 2010 Super User Posted March 18, 2010 Personally i never do. I just run Stabil and Quick Kleen in each tank with a water seperator and have had no problems. I let mine sit three months this winter, went to the lake, and it fired right up and ran like a new one with no problems. Each situation can be different though, so you might want to check with your dealer. Mine is a Mercury engine with carbs. FYI, I have never run Sea Foam, but have heard great reviews on it. Good luck, Jack Quote
Sfritr Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Thanks Jack I guess it may have helped if I stated what motor. It is a 96 Johnson 150. I too, have always used Stabil Marine but Cart has me convinced to give seafoam a try. I will probably just run out the gas with the Stabil in it before adding Seafoam just to be safe. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 18, 2010 Super User Posted March 18, 2010 I think you will be fine. My motor is basicallya new one. Just went through a total rebuild, lower unit redo with seals and I worked the carbs over last fall. It better run like new. Good luck Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 18, 2010 Super User Posted March 18, 2010 I've combined the two (Stabil Marine, SeaFoam) and haven't had any problems. Usually run SM, added a pint of SeaFoam once or twice last summer. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I have combined the two without any problems.............Al Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 18, 2010 Super User Posted March 18, 2010 iused sea foam last fall i have about 1/2 tank gas (20 gal) what to add stabolizer with the additive for ethanol treatment says every day usage put in 1oz per 10 gal i guess its ok to mix seafom and stabolizer a'm i correct What the hell did you just say? It hurts my eyes to try and read it. Quote
bass or bass ? Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 It says right on Sea Foam's can that it can be used with any other fuel additives. I used Sea Foam once, but due to it's price I've been using Sta-Bil Marine exclusively for a year with no problems. My motor sat from October 2nd to March 2nd and started and ran great. Quote
Fishbone Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I have been trying to buy Sea Foam, but can't find anybody selling it. Quote
SDoolittle Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 i guess ia'm pretty dumb according to-------are you saying that marine sta-bil ethanol treatment is the only additive you use i dont thinkYOU will have any trouble understanding Before you get upset when people don't understand your posts, try using capitalization, punctuation, and spell check. bass or bass ? Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I have been trying to buy Sea Foam, but can't find anybody selling it. You can find it in the automotive section at Wall-Mart. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 20, 2010 Super User Posted March 20, 2010 If you use Sea Foam all the time, you won't need any other product at any other time. I use it year round in all my small engines. Quote
kbkindle Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I have been trying to buy Sea Foam, but can't find anybody selling it. here in our town , rural king store has it. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 21, 2010 Super User Posted March 21, 2010 I have been trying to buy Sea Foam, but can't find anybody selling it. If you have a Federated Auto Parts store nearby, they are running a sale through mid-April on SeaFoam. Almost half price on gallons. Quote
