OOOHHHHH YEAH!!! I've had a few awesome early spring and late fall days on that very bait. When the smallies are on it, they're ON IT. 3 Quote
Fishingmickey Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 I have had my share Merthiolate (monkey blood down south) as a kid growing up in the 60's. Here's a couple of more for ya. Mike McClelland's Spro RK55. Fishingmickey 3 Quote

Weightless on a 4.0 ewg offset shank gamakatsu hook can be fished like a Shad, or like a tube, shallow or deep. It is a favorite of mine. Actually saved a weeklong trip one year. How often do you weight that and how much weight? Or you just tossing it over shallow flats on LSC? Quote

Yeah and it burns like heck!! My mom used to spead it over cuts and scapes while we hollered! I would have rathered just got the scrapes and let God take over the healing! Decided I was not going to do that to my kids. 3 Quote

DShads are heavier than most fluke style baits and as well as fishing it the normal way in shallow water, with a 4.0 hook I have drug it like a tube in water up to 15 feet. Yes, it takes a little patience to get it that deep but it works. I throw it on 6lb mono. I have thrown it in open water and I have thrown it bed fishing. There’s nothing like watching a smallie rocket off the bed and slam a DShad. One of my favorite baits. Period. 3 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted January 5, 2022 Author Super User Posted January 5, 2022 Guys thanks for the help with some pink/bubble gum. Didn’t realize there was that much out there. Recently picked a few things up, have a few coming delivered. I’ll post a pic of my pink care package when it all arrives. I feel d**n good about what I picked up to try but overall I’m not feeling all that about all things I found that were pink/ bubble gum. I refuse to buy just any old thing because it was pink. I went the route of sticking with brands and types that land me fish in other patterns and found pink variation they had. I believe I have half the battle won. Took the head game away I guess. The care package is not gonna too huge but if they are going to hit pink for me these will work. Hope they work. Rapala, Zoom, Berkley, Daiwa and a couple others all had pinks in existing things I use. Again thanks for the help. 1 Quote

Super User MickD Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Bubble gum soft jerks at times do very well on smallies. 1 Quote

The most important thing to remember is where in the nose of the bait you initially place the hook. If you look at what would be dead center of the nose, that’s where you want to rig it if you want a straight side to side action when you jerk it. Put the hook point lower and the bait will rise nose up when you jerk it. Put it higher and it will dive when you work it. Likewise either left or right of center will exaggerate that sides action. Those are the basics and there’s a lot of small adjustments you can make with those.? 1 1 Quote
