i took the 2 deep cycle battery's out of my boat for the winter, i notice one of them is wet around the area where the top was glued, is this a sign to dump it, the bottom of the battery box was wet also. is it safe to use it or not.

Could be any number of reasons for the wetness.  Take it to an auto parts store and get it checked.

I make a mixture of water and baking soda and use it neutralize and clean up any battery acid down in the bottom.

I'd take it in and have it checked - if the battery is leaking, it needs replacing...you can still get the core-value for trade in.

Dip your finger in the liquid and taste it.  If it's sour it's battery acid and leaking.  Wash your finger and mouth out if it's acid.

I would use a PH test strip like for a pool or spa to test the liquid. I would never put suspected battery acid on my finger, much less in my mount. Are you by chance being sarcastic with your response?

Test the liquid with ph strips and be done with it.  Dont taste it, dont rub it on your balls or whatever other terrible ideas people suggest.

you mentioned don't rub it on your testicles, this reminds me a few yrs back a guy was riding his Boss Hoss motorcycle, which in case no one knows it has a chevy V8 stashed in the frame, and the rider sits about an 1/8 of an inch from the distributor, well it started to rain, and the poor guy on that bike got jolted so bad from the distributor shock, he was able to keep the bike up without crashing, we all pulled to the side of the road and the guy was sitting on the curb, did not look good and was barbling and still to this day we don't know that language, was funny but yet he was never right for a few days, he did sell the bike. was black and blue from his waist to his knees.

From what I've seen in the past two years there are people out there dumb enough to try this. Not on this forum, of course!

To all the nay sayers, I wasn't kidding.  I'm over 80 and have been doing this for as long as I can remember.  I didn't say drink it.

Don’t taste it.

take some baking soda out of the fridge and mix it with water.  Pour sone on the suspected acid leak.  If it fizzes it’s acidic.

seems like there at least several options to try before the finger trick.  Having said that, there are some circumstances where a quick finger-trick is the go to move, before proceeding. But that is another discussion.
