The first cold weather months usually means it's time for the boat and fishing shows.  Usually a few pro bass fishermen give a seminar.  If you were to give a talk...what would you discuss?

For me...fishing large skirted twin tail jigs. I have them on different rods all the time all year.  No weed guards, different weights, swim, pitch, drag, topwater, lakes, rivers...I live on them.

Fly fishing rivers/native lakes for wild trout, Carryover trout, established trout, and native trout. (the stockers are stupid and are unpatternable because they have lived in a DFG tank their whole life)

yyes I do love bass fishing a lot, but I am no way an expert in it. Yes I may be fairly good but I have not established a skill-set or specialty in bass fishing that is light years ahead of everyone else.  My dads grandfather (sad story and I dont feel much about getting into it at the moment) but long story short he fly fished almost every day up on Montana and owned one of the very few properties landlocked in a national park when homesteading (he owned a  large portion of the river as well). He tied his own flies and knew all the different insect hatches from mayfly hatches to scud Larve  and marked them in a booklet for different times of the year. Sadly in the end dementia took him away from us and he "gave" the property and millions of dollars (modern day) in heavy equipment away to somebody that took advantage of him.

Spinnerbaits.

There’s always the natural progression of someone’s confidence in a topic though:

1. Only knows very little but is very confident in what they know since they don’t fully understand the topic.

2. Knows enough about a topic to know they still don’t know a lot.

3. Is an expert, but also still recognizes certain caveats to their beliefs and so can at times be less confident.

#1 wins debates, lol.

I like to think I’m in #2 with spinnerbaits

Shallow water plastic uses, and technique’s.
Still has as much to learn as I think I know.

I would talk about a pro's journey. It is not for the faint of heart. I know a lot of people have talked about it before, but I think each one is unique and it is good to hear about those experiences.

How to get your lure out of a tree.  I've been practicing this for 50 years.

I could put on a 3 hr. marathon seminar about all the ways to NOT boat a fish while frogging.

As if this past season wasn't humbling enough

When it come to hunting down big Brown Bass,

I'm like Sargent Schultz  in the old TV series Hogan's Heroes:

"I know Nothing"

The graph below covers this topic for me ~

simon wardley, expertise, professional

I can drive a boat little bit though.

My graph would look similar on all things fishing related.  Basically,  every year I gain a better understanding of how stupid I am.

I could run my mouth with all kinds of BS. on numerous bass fishing topics, but if I was smart, I would keep my mouth shut, and go listen to some real experts.

Hi guys, I’m going to talk to you today about buying all this nice ***, and then using a black and blue worm and 1/4oz weight to catch 99% of my fish anyhow.

In hour 2 we’ll cover how long exactly can you leave beer in the cooler in the boat and still re-ice it on the next trip with the same taste satisfaction level.

Finally in hour 3, we’ll cover how I occasionally run into an 8 pounder and tell everyone how I had them ‘dialed in’

After 50 years of fishing for bass I would never use the word expert describing any of my techniques.  I still learn something new almost every trip.  One thing I stick too and believe as gospel, is you can't catch them, if you don't keep your lure wet!  I don't run around after a plan has been formed.

How to complain about changing Split Rings...  Then searching for it....  Then (here is the key) FINDING it.

Often repeating this for the same split ring.

I laughed all the way through this thinking "we are the same".  Then I got to the last sentence and realized, no, we are not the same...

Probably on how it sucks to be in here giving a seminar when I could be out fishing.

Expert: a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill in a particular area.

Definitely got a skill ?
