Super User Sam Posted November 30, 2021 Super User Posted November 30, 2021 From Dandy Don's LSU Blog the morning of November 20th: Brian Kelly, the winningest football coach in Notre Dame history with a winning percentage (.743) that is second only to Nick Saban among active FBS coaches, is expected to be named LSU’s next head coach. LSU hasn’t officially announced the news, but several major media outlets have confirmed it and Kelly has already notified his players that he will be leaving. Brian Kelly is the most accomplished football coach LSU has ever had at the time of the hire. Ed Orgeron brought to LSU a winning percentage of .372. Les Miles was .571. The great Nick Saban’s winning percentage was only .585 when he arrived at LSU. Each of those three men increased their win percentage substantially while at LSU. Kelly comes in with an .743 winning percentage. Kelly restored Notre Dame football to prominence. In each of the past four years, Kelly’s Notre Dame teams have lost no more than two games. They’ve played in two of the last four college football playoffs, just finished the 2021 regular season at 11-1 and are still in contention to make this year’s CFP, which makes the timing of this news particularly interesting. Now to see how he does against the SEC schools since he will not be playing the five ACC schools and may have to eliminate the military schools and Southern Cal from his schedule and play very challenging teams. South Louisiana is a strong Catholic area which should help with recruiting and keeping Saban and others out of Louisiana. Geaux Tigers! 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted November 30, 2021 Super User Posted November 30, 2021 Wow. Any reason why Ed Orgeron isn't returning next season? Pretty amazing considering LSU just won the nat'l title a couple seasons ago? 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 30, 2021 Super User Posted November 30, 2021 I'm kind of bummed, being a ND fan back in the day. Haven't followed college football in quite a few years though. Quote

Ridiculous huh It really is, especially in the college ranks where you turnover so many players especially at the skilled positions. It's not like you can bank on Joe Burrow being there for the next 10 years? So here's a hypothetical question: You live in a part of the country you absolutely love (I'm leaving family out of this), you coach the state's biggest college team (could be a state school or private) and making pretty good money and benefits. Do you leave that situation for the big lights of say LSU, OSU, Alabama or whatever, knowing that you'll make more money but with more money comes the pressure of being in the top 4 every year? I hate to admit, but at this stage of my life, I pass. Quote

His off field antics with the ladies is known and not approved by LSU. He also knows about the LSU sexual abuse scandal going back to the Les Miles days and it has been rumored that he is going out of the country so he will not have to testify or answer questions from the NCAA or attorneys. Otherwise, we love him and always will. Geaux Tigers! 32 minutes ago, J Francho said: Sounds a bit hypocritical seeing as I still watch NFL, but this is the main reason I gave up on college football. Dwight: LSU paid Coach Eaux $17 million to take a hike and signed Brian Kelly for $9.5 million a year for 10-years. Where is this money coming from? TV rights; SEC share of their TV income; 8 home games; bowl games; sales of merchandise and food at the game? I know LSU cleared at least $8 million per game in past years but lately the 102,000 seat stadium has not filled up to capacity. With the SEC expansion expected to increase revenue and having a proven coach (74% win record) I believe the administration is thinking "sell out" for every SEC game and at least 95,000 or more fans for the nonconference games to generate this level of income. Time will tell. " I guess $9.5 million for each of 10-years had something to do with it. And that is the way it is done this year. Just look at all the coaching changes announced before the end of the season and the bowl games. 1 Quote

" Dan wolken is a moron. That’s the nicest thing I can say about him He dragged TN through the mud for not hiring Schiano (and never misses an opportunity to drag anyone through the mud). Do you ever wonder why Schiano isn’t considered for any coaching openings? Because nobody outside of Piscataway New Jersey wants him, not just Knoxville Quote

GReb Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Dan Wolken is my least favorite media person. I borderline feel hatred towards him lol Home run hire. As a Rebel I was hoping you would hire Lincoln Riley. That dude is so overrated. Kelly will win big at LSU. If Ed and Les could win titles in Red Stick then it can’t be too hard! I still can’t believe Ed won one even though he had plenty of help and a generational player at QB. At least it now looks like we will get another year or two from Lane 1 1 Quote

The biggest mistake LSU'S fan base & boosters make is comparing the 2019 season to last year & this year. The 2019 season wasn't about Orgeron or Brady or Ensminger or Amanda, it wasn't about Joe Burrow. It was a total team effort, it was the perfect storm. The NCAA has restrictions on how many hours a team can practice, the players meet off feild & even jumped the fence to practice without coaches. 2019 Tigers can not be compared to any team & will never be recreated 1 Quote

Joe Burrow was one of those. Such as Matt Corral has been for us this year. They don’t come around often. But if anyone is to be credited 2019 it’s Joe. Those players refused to let him down because he refused to let them down. Quote

Have not heard Lane mentioned in any conversations about any other school opening. He has it made at Ole Miss and I believe he will stay there unless he receives a very large offer to temp him away from The Grove. Any change for Lane will be a lateral one within the upper echelons of college football. Now with that said, coaches, ADs, and agents never mentioned Kelly going to LSU and it was a very big surprise when he was announced as LSU's coach. Only suggestion about Kelly was when an individual in the athletic office was asked about Pickle and Riley and the individual said "don't follow the smoke." We now know what was meant by that statement. 1 Quote
