Aaron_H Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, just read a post Gary made a few weeks ago on another site about bringing a new rod series to the $99 market called the Maverick. Looks like it will occupy the spot the Fury used to before price hikes (Fury is $130 now I believe). Five spinning, five casting, and one crankbait model (705CB). All graphite blanks, split EVA foam grips, and blue accents similar to the Champion series. If there's one complaint I have about my Fury, it's that the grip isn't quite as comfortable as I'd like, so I think I will end up picking up the 705CB to compare. Blue accents will be matchy-matchy with my SLX DC, but that's less important. Also bringing casting and spinning reels to market, which isn't something I'm personally invested in but will be interesting to see. Gary definitely seems very excited about the quality of them. 1 Quote

FishinBuck07 Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I really wish he would make a longer crankbait rod in the lower priced lineups. 7'0 is ok for squarebills, but I like something a little longer for medium diving cranks. 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted November 30, 2021 Super User Posted November 30, 2021 As most members know the trends in tournament fishing, the fasted growing demographic is high school ages. These kids are pretty savvy and know decent rods and reels and this series is pointing to that group and the many other entry level bass fisherman. That demographic has limited disposable income so the price point is aggressive. Dobyns knows the trend and supports high school events and college events. It’s a market segment. As for a longer crankbait rod, the Kaden series is ripe for an 805CB. Gary has said if there is enough requests he will build it. 3 Quote

My 764CB gets the majority of use. There are however quite a few anglers who don’t want, or can’t justify the expense of a long deep cranking rod. I’m convinced an 805CB in the Kaden line would cross that bridge. After fishing my K735CB, I think a longer version is doable but that decision will be up to Gary Dobyns. Quote
Aaron_H Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 Just an FYI for anyone interested in these, I just noticed they are finally listed as in stock on Tackle Warehouse. Quote
rangerjockey Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 I'm not a huge fan of Dobyns but I would think the Maverick will replace the colt. A lot of makers seem to want to put together a combo deal to put into the big box stores. I would guess that's why Dobyns wants to have their name on a reel. 1 Quote
newapti5 Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 What's with the nose-up snobby pics of the Maverick reels though? I can't see if there's any resemblance with the new Abu Zenon series reels' frame. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 4, 2022 Super User Posted March 4, 2022 I only have two questions about the Maverick reels 1: Is it metal frame or carbon frame? 2: What's the IPT of the various gear-ratios? Can't find the answers to those two anywhere I look. Quote
Aaron_H Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 The reels haven't been released yet, only the rods (I should have been more clear, my apologies). I'm sure we will get more information about the reels once they release. As for the rods, I would have liked to see a shorter casting rod in the mix. A 683C or something would've been nice. Quote
