Have both of these rods in the Fury and they have served me well. Wanted to upgrade for lighter weight and better sensitivity. FR 734 will be for jigs to replace H2O xpress rod and FR 702 sf will see drop shot and the occasional saltwater trip for trout. Reels: Tatula SV 103H to go on a SA 682 c for finesse swimbaits, underspins, slider heads, light shakey heads. Fuego 2500 for new SA 702 sf. Have one of these already, but it will stay on the FR 702. Plan on 10 lb hi viz braid to 8 lb fluoro for mostly 1/20 oz neds. Feel I got decent deals on everything but I’m going to have to take care of the wife this year so she doesn’t dig too deep into what all this cost!! Haha @Holetail Very nice. The SA 703 sf was my introduction to Dobyns and 80% of the time, I end up purchasing Dobyns. For me personally, it's hard to deny the price value of the Sierras and the Fuegos. Quote

I pretty much knew once I tried anything above the Fury, I would want to upgrade. They are nice and I will continue to use them, but the difference is noticeable even to me. I love my Fuego reels (3-BC & 1-spinning) for the price. Have moved up to some Tatulas, but spinning reels will stay the same. Bonus is the sealed bearings for occasional use in saltwater. 1 Quote

IMO, it's near perfection aside from the location and build of the mag brake dial. I have to look at it every cast to make sure my silly hand didn't fudge the setting. It's so good, I don't care. I still enjoy it just as much as the Steez SV TW. Daiwa's not stupid. Did they place that imperfection there purposely or is their R&D just a step behind Shimano? Quote
Fat Ika Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 @Holetail - Heck yeah! I starting dabbling with a few Champ XPs in 2018, 2019 a few Champ Extremes, last year 1 Xtasy. I've had Exprides, 1 Adrena, Tatula Elites, Croix Legend Tournaments/Legend Elites. I only have experience with one Loomis rod (GLX 893C JWR) and no experience with Megabass. I'm sure I'd love Loomis and some Megabass, but the price of GLX was a turn-off. Amazing rod. It is more sensitive than my comparable length/action Champion Extremes, the comfort/balance for me is almost as good as the Champ Extremes......but the GLX's are $125 more than the Champ Extremes. I'm not someone that has sensitivity as a primary value. Build quality, service, balance, comfort, variety of lengths/actions, build quality, durability are my personal primary preferences. I'm overly impressed with all those factors with Dobyns and I'm sure I would love Loomis, but price/value for me personally is currently with Dobyns. I'm sure I'll try the Loomis rabbit hole one day, but I am just as excited to pick up all my Champ XPs/Extremes as I am my 1 Xtasy. I hope I don't start a rod war. I respect all brands, I respect all peoples preferences and opinions, and I don't think anyone's entitled to a super firm opinion unless they have the disposable income and determination to try everything all brands/line/models and overtime experience all facets of all the rod brands. I'm not firm on my opinion, but I'm very comfortable with Dobyns, and a few other brands/models. I just started participating on BR. This is killing my work productivity. 1 Quote

Anyhow, over at the Two Tees forum the picky guys, who seem to completely live for the slightest whiff of an issue, haven't yet complained about the dial moving in 48 pages of commentary, AFAIK. Hopefully this particular complaint is limited to just you and the single "mystery" complainant in the TW review section. I have large hands with no weird, knobbly callouses, so hopefully I'll be spared this misery. My model is on backorder, so in the meantime I'll try not to think about it. Oy vey. ? 1 Quote

I have a fair number of Daiwas from TD-S thru newer SV spooled reels. Never had a problem with the brake dial setting moving on me. Does it have to be Black Friday purchases? Spinning or baitcast related? I did pick up a few new baitcast reels earlier this year on sale that haven't been used yet. My last fishing related purchase was an Aetos 6wt fly rod which will see some use for bass. Saved over $110 off MSRP. Before that I bought a 3wt and 4wt Redington Classic Trout for panfish. Saved over $80 (on each) off current MSRP. And of course fly lines for them. Now if I can just find the reel for my old GLoomis GL3 8wt, I'll be all set for bass (and panfish and trout) next year. 2 Quote

I feel ya. I'm sure you'll get it before the the ice breaks. It's an awesome reel and the minor inconvenience never deters me from using it. I'm sure it's something to do with my personal hand ergonomics. When you do get it, I'm sure you'll giggle every time you use it. 1 Quote
evilcatfish Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Not Black Friday sales per se, but I did stumble on a used Daiwa Steez 100SH and Evergreen Kaleido IGTC-69MH Stallion GT over the last few days, both of which were excellently priced. Had to ****** them both up. As far as actual sales go, I stuck with stuff I actually needed, like line and a few odds and ends. Quote

I too have never had a problem with the 30 plus Daiwa casting reels I've had since the late 90s. Quote

But from what I've read about them, I'd say I definitely need one. I didn't get into baitcast reels until March 2009. Since then I've managed to pile up more than I need or can use. BUT that doesn't stop me from looking....or occasionally still buying another. 1 Quote
PBBrandon Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Dobyns Kaden 712s for finesse and an Abu Garcia Veracity 7ft HF for froggin and big jigs. Love the Kaden so far and the Veracity is coming in tomorrow, can’t wait lol Quote

I wouldn't worry about it. The CT SV TW has a similar dial placement. I took it apart and the dial has a spring loaded pin/detent system so it is unlikely to move as a result of accidental brushing. 1 Quote
YoTone Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I also ordered the Zillion sv after balking at getting one in the spring when they first came out because of the price. For 20% off I decided to try it. Never spent over $120 on a reel before so kinda nervous about it but from what ive read its a really good reel. I chose this over getting the Metanium and a Curado 150. 1 Quote

I chose this over getting the Metanium and a Curado 150. From what I've read it is an excellent reel. Even if it wasn't better than the older Zillions I think you'd like it. BUT this one is supposed to handle lighter lures much better than the models I have. I relegate my Zillions to MH rods. Although my 50th Anniversary is exemplary on an older 7'6" HF Zillion. And of course the SV spool should tame the spool quite well. My 50th is nearly a set-and-forget while the standard requires a little more fussing with the controls. Quote
ajschn06 Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Vendetta spinning rod with a Revo SX for neds Falcon Pitchin Stick with a Revo SX for jigs/frogs Veritas TE rod (FREE!!) with a Revo STX to upgrade my chatterbait setup My old chatterbait setup will handle keitech's and small jigs next year- I sold a few things collecting dust so my out of pocket expense was minimal. Only problem is winter hasn't even started yet..... Quote
Meyer87 Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I treated myself to a new Curado 150MGL HG (I already have one, but decided to get another), and a G Loomis GLX 844MBR 1 Quote

softwateronly Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I was fortunate enough to grab a pristine used Conquest 904 & new Xtasy 755 for 65% off retail, and paired both with JDM 20 Met's. One new and one moved over from an expride. The expride has a Curado 71MGL coming from TW as a replacement, plus a reload on jigs, swim jigs, swimbaits, trailers, and a-rigs. Wallet is also very unhappy... 12 hours ago, mrpao said: From TW: Poison adrena 6'10" med casting 2X Poison adrena 6'10" ultra light spinning. I had that poison 6'10M casting in my TW cart all the way till I pulled the trigger, maybe next year. I was thinking it would throw the vision 110, heavy neds, light wire finesse jigs, small keitechs, and blade baits. The 6'11M+ is a really fun rod. scott Quote

I'm ordering my Christmas rods on Friday from JDM Tackle Haven. '21 Poison Glorious 7'H, and a Megabass p5 Kasumi 611 (f2.5 6'11" 1/8-1/2oz slow taper) for peanuts/sweet p's. I Can't believe I'm buying a megabass....I used to scoff at them because they were heavy and/or overly adorned IMO. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted December 1, 2021 Super User Posted December 1, 2021 I won't really know until Christmas. My family pretty much knows me and the TW Black Friday Sale. I put out there a few things and wait to see what I get. This year I put out there Abu Ike Delay Rods and a couple of Revo Series reels. Whatever they pick I'll make that combo work. I hate to buy a rod unseen or untouched but fishing a couple Abu Winch setups I feel pretty good about liking the feel. Moderate action will work for my crankbait fishing. Threw out there a few SPRO, Lucky Craft and 6th Sense Crankbaits. I'll be happy and use whatever comes my way. Quote
