High temps today and into next week aren't too bad. Haven't been over to the lake in a couple of days, might take a peak later on. A-Jay Quote

I can believe it - as I've said before, one year season opener (middle of May), we still still had ice floating in Lake Bemidji...which is only 80 miles south of the BWCA 1 1 Quote

Latest one I can remember since 2007 is 03 May 2018 While we got enough snow this morning to cover the ground mostly, I think we're going to stay ahead of that one in 2022. I certainly hope so anyway. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted April 16, 2022 Super User Posted April 16, 2022 Ice out has been declared on Lake Minnetonka as of 5:30pm yesterday, April 15. That’s one day later than average. https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2022/04/15/ice-out-declared-on-lake-minnetonka-4/ My initial guess of April 5 was 9 days off. @MN Fisher predicted April 27, so he was 12 days off. Well the La Nina they'd predicted never bore fruit - so ya...my prediction was late based on the original climate prediction. Quote

Super User gim Posted April 18, 2022 Super User Posted April 18, 2022 Most of the lakes from the Twin Cities area and south here in Minnesota are wide open now. I drove to Brainerd for Easter and once I got to around about 50 miles north of Minneapolis, I saw some ice. Once I got towards Brainerd, there was actually still some snow on the ground still too (mostly big piles, not everywhere). Mille Lacs is definitely going to be May when it loses its ice. @A-Jay what is the average ice out for Lake Menderchuck? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2022 Super User Posted April 18, 2022 Snow here tonight and tomorrow. Ugh. Quote

Early would be anything in March or 1st week of April Average is 3rd week of April, so we could be close to that in 2022. Anything close to or into May is a little later than average. Best bite for bigger brown bass happens within the first 3 weeks or so of open water. Doesn't matter water the water temps are, I just need to be there. Wind direction & speed are a huge deal during that time. SE & SW are good if they are not to wild. NW is the prevailing wind direction then and I can safely fish that deal with it blowing a good bit. Happened last spring quite a bit A-Jay 1 Quote
