Mostly not a huge surprise that the prediction I made more than 18 weeks ago didn't happen.

Looking at hard water now is wildly disappointing.

The local weather is totally trending in the right direction

with above freezing air temps day & night along with some serious rain action.

So while the Over 3025 hours seems long enough for me,

remembering what was happening a year ago today is fun and does test my patience.

Maybe next week.

I hear you there, Andy. I think my prediction was a little long - we're moving along on Tonka...all the channels are open and a couple of the smaller lakes in the chain are near 1/2 open.

I think it's gonna be between average (13 April) and my prediction (27 April) when we have official ice-out here.

Ya'll have more of that rain on the way ?. Maybe the 15th? Sun peeks out a little after those warm rainy days

I saw some smaller lakes yesterday that were 75% ice free.  Average ice out date for Tonka is April 14, so it looks to be pretty close to that now.

It really hasn't been that warm here the past 7-10 days.  But the rain that has steadily fallen the last few weeks has really chewed up the ice.

Did some local Lake Menderchuck RECON with Tank yesterday ~

Still Iced Up.

But I pulled the drive way markers and stowed the Snow blower for the 'season'.

So that felt pretty good.

Several small lakes near me were wide open last night.  Won't be long now.

Had a couple errands in St. Louis Park and Minnetonka today and passed by quite a bit of Tonka's north end. Most of the smaller lakes in the chain are 90%+ open (Black, Emerald, Tanager that I saw). Also, some of the larger bays are either 50%+ open or have massive holes and leads in them (Spring Park, Lafayette, Smiths, Browns)

I think it might be pretty close to average ice-out this year.

That's what I like to hear.  I figured it might be with all the rain we've had the last few weeks.  It really hasn't been that warm, but rain eats away at it pretty quick.

I can’t wait to see some fish pics from up north after ice out! They should be feeling their oats and chomping at the bit

If you’re getting the same temps the next 48-72 hours like we are down here then you should see at least a little bit of open water.

We're getting some pretty heavy rain right now which will help immensely.

Local lakes already designated as ice-free include Whaletail yesterday, which is one of the lakes I plan on hitting this year and Virginia the day before, which while not considered part of the Tonka chain is connected to Tonka via a channel.

I got smoked last night.  Two waves of down pour and one of them had small BB sized hail.  I think there is a good possibility that most of the metro lakes will be declared as ice out today after that heavy rain last night.

We're getting closer

Two of the 'mid-size' lakes in the west metro got declared ice-free today

Buffalo and Waconia are now open for business.

I saw Medicine Lake in Plymouth was declared ice free today too.  That is a sizable lake just east of Tonka.
