Super User J Francho Posted December 10, 2021 Super User Posted December 10, 2021 I used to love splitting wood. Until my back decided I should only do a days worth at a time. I still love it, but can't go for more than an hour or so. It's so satisfying when you get one perfectly in one swing. I also like the big rounds that take three wedges to get it to finally split. I feel like I won a war against the log. 2 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted December 15, 2021 Author Super User Posted December 15, 2021 Feels like late March here this morning. Realistically we still have a decent chunk of the winter to endure, which will most likely be vastly different. Meanwhile the deep low pressure passing by to our northwest tonight will result in well above normal temperatures, periods of showers, and increasingly very gusty winds. Expect the warmest temperatures to occur late tonight, when most of the area will surge into the 50s. Wind gusts will steadily increase, become very strong later tonight into Thursday, with wind gusts of 45-50+ mph expected. Power outages are expected across northern Michigan and especially at A-Jay's house. A-Jay Quote

Anything under two feet is good for me. We're less than a foot now. Keeps the ladder in the garage which is right where I like it to stay. A-Jay Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 15, 2021 Super User Posted December 15, 2021 There is no way I could get to my roof, though it's a fairly steep pitch. Some snowfall trivia for my area: https://www.weather.gov/arx/snow.rst Quote

We average 140-150 inches a year, most coming before Jan but we've been behind that a bit for the last few years. Not complaining but if it's going to be cold, we might as well have some snow. Just don't need it all at once. A-Jay Quote

That was hellacious. The stuff that the plow leaves at the end of the driveway was the worst. Its back breaking work. Fast forward to the following September. Snow blowers on sale! Bought a 2-stage with a Briggs & Stratton 4-stroke engine and shoveling magically went away. Granted, there are some snowfalls that I get that are the heavy, wet stuff and the blower can't do much with it because it just comes out like ketchup, but 90% of the snow I get every winter now is sent 40 feet into the yard with my snow blower. #shovelingsucks 2 Quote

But back 8-9 years ago we had a good bit and I was in a log cabin with a long steep gravel driveway, maybe 1/4 mile. I decided to clear it, should have just walked to the store haha 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted December 16, 2021 Global Moderator Posted December 16, 2021 Three emergencies so far today, all broken poles. Thankfully we got our power back according to the wife. They were saying on the radio this morning, this frontal condition is stronger than the one that sunk the Edmond Fitzgerald. 1 Quote
