Guys, does Mustad make a jig hook, like the Gamakatsu 604, thanks bob [the Gamakatsu are costly]

It looks like they do.  I'm looking at Barlow's catalog.  The Mustad 32833 NP-BN.  It listed as Steelhead & Salmon Jig hook, heavy wire, round bend.  Another one you might want to look at is the Eagle Claw 570H which is a medium wire hook.  There's also a bunch of Mustad and Eagle Claw and VMC light wire jig hooks that might work for you.

The Grammy 604 is a regular wire diameter hook, listed as heavy in error. Mustad regular wire 90 degree 32746 is equal wire dia.

Same, I use Eagle Claw on everything I can find them for. I am experimenting with some Victory hooks just to try them and so far so good.

Eagle Claw 5318 is similar wire dia to  604.

IMO you get what you pay for, never scrimp on jig hook quality and use the 604.

The 604 is listed as a heavy wire jig hook by Gamakatsu and most distributors sell it as a heavy wire 90 degree hook.

Eagle Claw doesn't make a 5318, that is an Owner hook. The Owner 5318 has a smaller diameter than the Gami 604 until you get to the larger sizes from 3/0 and up.  To be honest Owner hooks are less money than Gamakatsu and a step above in terms of quality.

I’ve been waiting for you or Ted to respond because you two know your stuff about hooks.

You are right, too much wine! I use both Owner and Gami 5/0 jig hooks, only make 1 jig.

Yeah those Lazer sharp series have actually become really good, I think I used to get 15 in a pack for 4 bucks, really good deal but now they are always out of stock. I wonder why mustards quality control has gone down so much?

I buy my hooks by the 1000 count from Shorty’s.

Mustad quality control = mfg in China.

Manufacturing was moved to China, things went downhill from there.

Buy them in bulk and you can do much better. I buy my Lazer Sharp worm hooks in 500 packs for a little over $60 shipped.

When did worm hooks become 90 degree jig hooks?

Too bad that Mustad is now mfr in China....

Owner and Gamakatsu still made in Japan...I hope!

I was commenting on how the quality of EC hooks has gone way up but I also buy my Eagle Claw EL3052's in bulk 500 packs for even less than their worm hooks for a comparable hook to the one the OP is looking for. Most of my 90* jig hooks are EC Lil' Nasty hooks that run about that much for a 1,000 pack though.

It’s a Shame that Mustad went to China.

All my Mustad hooks are over 4 years old now and don’t plan on buying any more....

Not sure about gammies but on owner packaging it says made in Japan, at least the ones I use.

Maybe I start trying eagle claws again.  I want to support them as they are made here.  Seemed like the worm hooks rusted just mentioning the word water.  I guess I never really had an issue using the jig hooks on round all walleye jigs.

They're very sharp. Buy the ones with the BP designation on them (black platinum), and you won't have issues with rusting. People are always shocked when I tell them the hooks on my baits that they buy from me are Eagle Claw because they're so sharp.
