Everyone seems to be assuming it takes sophisticated technology to get scammed.  What about handing your card to a waiter/waitress to pay for a meal?  It goes out of sight the info on it can be copied and used.

There are a bazillion ways to get scammed, some high tech and some not high tech.  And TW is not scamming and has not scammed anyone.

I don't think anyone has claimed TW themselves are scamming or have scammed anyone. The title of the OP is poor wording is all. Talking about the things TW should have done before, during, and after is not calling them scammers.

There is nothing that TW should have done.  Every vendor on the internet has had customers scammed or attempted to be scammed based on their business with the vendor.  I recently got a message from "Paypal" telling me that I had bought $876 from xyz.  If I wanted to cancel the transaction I had 24 hours to contact a link.  All this looked like Paypal.  It was not Paypal.  How would Paypal have even known about it?  Should I go onto the internet and post "Paypal scam?"

TW is not the villain in any way here.  There is nothing that they should have done.

When I was traveling for work to Peru and Argentina a couple years ago, they told me that at no point should you permit anyone to charge your card out of sight. Sure enough, every time I used it, they had a mobile charge machine that they would use to charge me right at the table. Apparently charging your card out of sight of the owner is an American thing, they said.

They said a lot of other interesting things about our country too but I won’t repeat them. Lol

Most places I go out to eat at these days have a kiosk at the table where you swipe and pay yourself and it spits out a receipt right there. The cheaper diners are behind the times.

Seems there are so many scams on the interwebs these days.

And if you send me $29.95,

I'll tell you how to avoid them.

??

It's a deal.  I'll bring it to you at Lake Manderchuck or whatever its name is in May.  Please send directions.

Related to fishing - I was charged $8 when I reserved a launch spot at a local lake, Calero. I didn't realize that the money did not count as part of the launch fee. I refused to pay another $15 to launch my kayak so I went home and took the $8 loss.

A month later I checked my debit card and noticed it was charged a second time.

From my bank, after filing a claim:

Thank you for your patience in the time required to review your claim. We have completed our investigation of this claim and determined that an error did occur. We have sent a letter by mail with the details of our investigation.

Just thought I'd mention it. I always scan my account to see if there are any mysterious charges.

Just checked my account and the charge was reversed. Getting ripped off on the original $8 "reservation fee" was bad enough, no way do they get more of my cash.

How so?  Tackle Warehouse has confirmed this happened.  Nothing they could have done to stop someone from getting into their system and stealing people's credit card numbers?

And they're totally innocent for keeping it hush hush for 2 months in the name of the mighty dollar.

Ditto - my last purchase was in July...

My card was one of the one's nailed. Got an email regarding it today but the card was already cancelled due to over $2,600 in three fraudulent charges.

I think this is the second time my card has been comprised at Tackle Warehouse. They need to seriously upgrade their security game.

Looking at some other forums it seems the stolen card #s were still being used as of Dec 9th. Latest claim I've found anyways, and I didn't look very hard. I've never shopped there but if I did I would contact my bank and get a new card.

I've seen other claims made about how it has been handled but without knowing all the facts I can not comment.

"There was a data breach and a lot of TW's customers "

And they just got around to telling me by mailing list email. They've known since at least 11/29.

I received an email yesterday from IDX security regarding my credit card and personal info being hacked at Tacklewarehouse.

10/15/21 - TW became aware of potential data security incident.

On 11/6/21 they determined payment card info was obtained on 10/1/21.

On 11/29/21 they determined my info may have been affected during the incident.

May have involved my name, address, payment card number (shows last 4 digits), exp dat/e and security code.

And I get an email on 12/23/21 ?????????????????????????????????????????????

Did they lose my number and email? Did I get too many free t-shirts or something?

What the heck? I'm still cleaning up my automatic payment settings, because yes, fraudulent charges were recently made on that card and it was closed.

I could have closed it almost a month ago and avoided the hassle. Jeez.

I've been buying all sorts of junk for years online using Paypal. Haven't been dinged once by fraud.

Is this just for credit cards?

I’ll be using my debit card.

Debit cards are more susceptible...most banks don't cover errors with them like the Credit Card companies do their cards.

Bank of America most certainly has covered it when it's happened to me.  Doubt I'm special.

Going on 4 or 5 times in the past 5 or 6 years now. Never cost me a penny.

Just a PIA.

I did say most, Andy.

I've had Wells Fargo also cover me the few times something like this has happened. Never an issue, never a problem at my end with their service.
