is it safe do buy on tacklewarehouse now? just did a purchase yesterday and saw this topic today, they fixed the issue?

Just cruising though this thread, I don’t think anyone lost money just had to get new cards. Then you have to add the new card info to all the bills you pay automatically with your card (I always do one time payments for such reasons). Also it sounds like members that used PayPal didn’t have to deal with it. I’ve never had a PayPal acct, I think my brothers got hacked once but that was a long time ago.

I would imagine that right now, after the hack, is the safest time ever to buy haha.

what’s crazy is that all companies targeted had the word “warehouse” in the name. What will the basement crew think of next?

I think those other companies are also owned by the same group that owns TW. Learned that on here a while back. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Well, Skate Warehouse and Inline Warehouse have the same business address - so those two are a safe bet.

Get a password manager, and life becomes simpler.

I’ve always had a fear of password managers. It’s probably unfounded fear, but I just can’t cope with the idea of someone gaining access to all of my accounts at once. For some people, password managers are a necessity though.

There’s actually a story out today about LastPass (password manager) that looks kind of strange, like there may be some vulnerability that LastPass isn’t aware of or is denying.

Been using one for at least a decade with no issues. Change the master fairly frequently.

I never knew they existed until several hours ago. I have an absurd amount of passwords for both personal accounts/programs and work ones. They always say not to write them down. Well who can remember over 120 individual passwords without writing them down? Not this guy.

As far as I can tell, a password manager acts as sort of a “master vault” that stores them. The problem is exactly what you mentioned, plus I still have to remember the password to get in to get my passwords. The irony.

It is easy.  Use an algorithm.  All mine are protected that way and SUPER easy to remember.  Fast to type to as not much changes, but I always know what does.

All algorithms ARE KNOWN and accessible by the web crooks.  Locks only keep out honest people.

We carry our password books on trips.  Couple of hundred for wife & me.

You don't get it. Mine is unique.  Cracking my other accounts will be as hard as the first.  And still easy to remember.

Glad to share an example if someone wants.  Makes passwords way easier.  Although for garbage things that don't matter a password manager like what Google has built in is fine.

To answer @Glenn comment about TW recovering from the bad PR and the hit to their reputation, I think it will take time.

For me persoanlly It will take a lot of time to regain confidence hitting the place order button and a different way of doing things. I get they weren't the company that had the data breach, their card handler did. Where I felt they dropped the ball was not telling me to take measures to protect my info. Yes I got an email from IDX, but it was roughly 2 weeks after my card was comprimised. Had I known when I placed my order I might have gotten a paypal account or done what we are doing tonight and getting a one time use number. Yes I am doing an order tonight as a few items are at a price we may not ever see again. Just waiting to see if any other items go to prices that the monkey puts more items in my cart.

So in my eyes they aren't clean in this mess, which no company ever wants to go through, but if they handle it well from here on out that will tell us a lot about TW. Even giving a one time discount code to those that could have been or potentially impacted would be a nice gesture that could be stacked with sales. Acadamy did this for me when they sent me the wrong reel, left handed instead of right for my troubles, and it was a way bigger discount than I expected. Granted the left hand BC was a blessing in disguise as they are now my 1st choice for BC reels. Time will tell.

I know there is a tennis warehouse and I think a ski or skate warehouse under the same umbrella.

That's what ticked me off. They discovered my card was compromised on 11/29, and didn't notify me until 12/27.  My card holder gets an A+ though.

Debit cards are more susceptible...most banks don't cover errors with them like the Credit Card companies do their cards.

Over the years, I have been a member of 2 different Credit Unions. I have had debit cards with each of them. In all cases they have quickly notified me of any dubious charges, and any that were actually bogus were immediately refunded.  To my knowledge most credit unions these days do the same. Check with your bank or credit union to see how they handle things.

As I mentioned above - Wells Fargo does that with my debit card...course I've had a 'premier' account with them for 30+ years. It pays to stick with one bank and not bop around searching for better rates/service...stick with a bank, they'll give you those after long enough.

I've never used them, but I'm glad Wells Fargo has treated someone well. Their track record is horrible. (Come to think of it, I did pay off my wife's mortgage after we got married in '18 and was very happy WF didn't lose my money or foul up the paperwork.)

From CNBC -   Wells Fargo has paid more than $4 billion in penalties since its 2016 fake accounts scandal was uncovered.Sep 9, 2021

Fwiw, my wife and I both used PayPal and our cards were still compromised.

Fraud is not going anywhere. Use avenues that protect you and keep an eye on your accounts. It’s unfortunately part of our life now and it’s not a matter of if but when. And please put those debit cards away. Only use them for ATMs

Last night we did an order, Menace and Baby Menace at 4.19 sadly is a good deal so 24 packs ordered, and we used the random card number thing so that they don't have her actual card information. I will also say the credit card area looked different, so perhaps they have made changes there, but it is a gut feel it changed as I don't have before and after screenshots.

Only thing that sucks is that I forgot to add the free t shirt!

I just got an IDX email from TW showing a card I'd used might have been compromised, but it was an emptied Visa gift card.

edit: Just checked and my Paypal is still clean.

Did you get an email confirmation from Paypal when the hacked sale went through? Mine comes through instantly.

I just checked my spam folder looking for a different email and had two emails from IDX. One referenced Skate Warehouse and the other referenced Tackle Warehouse. These were sent Dec 22 and 27. I haven't ordered anything from SW in a year plus (stuff for kids). I did do BF TW order. Haven't seen anything suspicious on the cc used for that. The couple times my one card was compromised the card issuer was outstanding in their response.

Another option is to use the afterpay at checkout at TW. It’s a third party company that splits your purchase into 4 biweekly interest fee payments. They get your credit card info, not TW
