The closest to that particular Inferno model in the Diesel line is the 723C MHEF. They're feather-weight at 3.3oz, and reasonably sensitive. When looking at various rods, even within the same manufacturer, I've noticed some M/H rods lean towards the medium side, & some lean towards the heavy side. The Inferno leans towards the medium side while the Tatula is more of an actual M/H that lean a tad bit towards heavy. Inferno: Worm Rod Tatula: Jig Rod 2 Quote

I fully agree if we're talking about these particular casting rods, but I'm recommending the XT spinning rod in this case. I realized he was asking about a spinning rod and not a casting rod once he mentioned his reel. It's true that the MF Tatula XT spinning is a crisper M, but unlike the casting version it doesn't lean up into MH much at all. 2 Quote

But it does lean into it some. My point is if @N Florida Mike is comfortable & confident with a Medium then throw it. With the Inferno leaning towards Medium I can throw weightless plastics easily. Not saying the Tatula can't but not as effortlessly as the Inferno. 2 Quote

I’ll take a look at the tatula… Ive also got 2 old rods I’m going to put new guides on. Along with the new rod, that should give me enough for the applications I use. I swear I caught thousands of fish on my 6.6 medium mod fast ugly stik, big fish too, That’s one of the rods I’m fixing.., I’ll check out the inferno! You broke an ugly stick? Did your wife put it in the trash compactor like the commercial ?? 1 Quote

It’s just a guide that broke off…Im fixing it today… I did have a friend that was fishing with one in a creek off the st Johns and broke it setting the hook on a fish… I was going through ALL my old rods this morning and there were 5-6 that had broken tips. I remember breaking 2 of them but family members must have accounted for the others. Moral of the story- Lock up your fishing gear… 2 Quote

My buddy says super glue works better than the melty glue that comes in the kit. Putting on a new guide should be as easy as thread and epoxy, the tricky part for me is not having a roller or anything to let the epoxy dry evenly. Also, being from TN, I’ve fished many rods that were missing a guide or two (while chewing on a piece of hay and wearing overalls barefooted ) 2 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 28, 2021 Author Super User Posted December 28, 2021 Most of the broken tip rods were el cheapos anyway. It seems like when you put a new tip on it’s always stiffer than before. I do fish rods missing guides for catfish. Im more persnickety about bass fishing gear though. ( As y’all can probably tell from this post). As far as the Tennessee comment, they sound like my kind of people. Except for your football preference, haha. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 29, 2021 Author Super User Posted December 29, 2021 Well , I settled for a Fenwick HMG 7’0 MF. I had wanted a Diesel but the mom and pop tackle store I use sometimes didn’t carry them. The second rod I picked up was the one . Love at first sight. Just Felt right. You know how it goes. So I had to get out and try it. Casts great. Great match with my reel. Just the right sensitivity. When I set the hook on the first decent fish, it was off a laydown, and I had to hoist the fish up out of it. The rod handled it well. As @Catt had mentioned about the Powell diesel rod, this rod seemed to be a medium + . In between a medium and Medium heavy. Soft tip with plenty of backbone. I hooked All the bigger fish that bit, and they werent coming unhooked! Well pegged.!! Well, I appreciate y’alls help very much. I’m very happy with this rod. 4 Quote

Fenwick is a very underrated brand down in the south IMO, seems like they're a household name up north but most of the Florida guys have never heard of them. Great rods for the money. I've got a couple of Aetos spinning rods and I love them, caught a lot of great fish on them and I've heard nothing but praise for the HMG line. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 29, 2021 Author Super User Posted December 29, 2021 I had heard of them but don’t remember anyone I know ever having one. I had also meant to say it’s also a full cork handle rod, not a split. That’s another feature I was looking for…. 1 Quote

I got a fenwick hmg for free for appearing in a commercial once. It snapped boat flipping a 13 inch smallmouth. This was my one and only fenwick experience 2 Quote
