Deephaven Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Got a wonderful Thanksgiving present. My 10 year old is positive with Covid. Had a note from school about exposure on Tuesday and tested to be sure before seeing grandparents and are glad we did. Having a wee one isolate is really hard. Wondering if there is any wisdom on the forum to help get through it.
Super User gim Posted November 25, 2021 Super User Posted November 25, 2021 I can’t offer much advice but I’m glad you made the decision you did about seeing others. Hope your kiddo improves quickly without any long term effects.
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted November 25, 2021 Global Moderator Posted November 25, 2021 Hate to hear that, I hope he/she doesn’t have any symptoms and everyone comes though just fine. I don’t have any kids so I can’t offer much in the way of advice but know that we are rooting for y’all at bass resource! 1
Deephaven Posted November 25, 2021 Author Posted November 25, 2021 Thanks. He is my tough and stubborn one. Not showing any symptoms, but obviously is bummed he has to isolate. Super social little boy. Hurts me that I can't hold and soothe him.
Super User deaknh03 Posted November 26, 2021 Super User Posted November 26, 2021 99.99% chance he'll be fine.
Deephaven Posted November 26, 2021 Author Posted November 26, 2021 No symptoms yet. He plays soccer 5+ days a week and is 5' and 70lbs and hasn't missed a day of school for being sick since kindergarten. Still no symptoms either. Of course I still want to do everything I possibly can to make sure I have no regrets in my care for him. 1
Super User Bird Posted November 26, 2021 Super User Posted November 26, 2021 Sounds like a caring father, good for you. Both of my daughters tested positive without any symptoms. He'll be kicking the leather of a soccer ball very soon.
Skunkmaster-k Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Vitamin c. , vitamin d , zinc . Give him lots to drink . Don’t let him do anything physical for a couple of weeks. My son brought it home from school two weeks ago. He tested positive for Covid, flu, and strep. Gosh dang he was sick. By the time it was all over the entire family had it. My wife got it worse than the rest of us due to her hypothyroidism, but she made it alright , she’s a tough ol bird. Did they offer you the antibody infusion ?

He will be fine. 42 minutes ago, Deephaven said: He plays soccer 5+ days a week and is 5' and 70lbs and hasn't missed a day of school for being sick since kindergarten. Still no symptoms either. Because this is the case, his chances of survival are like 99.9999999%. The best thing you can do is to make sure he does not freak out over stuff he might have heard.
Deephaven Posted November 26, 2021 Author Posted November 26, 2021 Antibody infusion? No...but we only tested because he had a close contact note from the soccer team and were going to be with elderly relatives. Was shocked he was positive as he has no symptoms. Skunkmaster-k Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 I forgot to mention elderberry. You can buy the gummies at Walmart 2 minutes ago, Deephaven said: Antibody infusion? Deephaven Posted November 26, 2021 Author Posted November 26, 2021 Hoping it stays that way. Exposure was Tue, but + already.
Global Moderator Mike L Posted November 26, 2021 Global Moderator Posted November 26, 2021 Only advice I can give is Don’t leave him alone being in isolation. Even if you have to sit, sleep and eat on the floor and talk through the key hole. Gotta keep him engaged with your normal life as much as you can. Wishing him the best. Mike
Skunkmaster-k Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 The symptoms for us showed up really strong on the second day. Our eyes hurt, bad headaches, muscle and joint pain , super high fevers, exhaustion , and some chest pain. If he’s not showing symptoms by now he’ll probably be alright. Those vitamins will help him in the long haul though.
Deephaven Posted November 26, 2021 Author Posted November 26, 2021 I really appreciate the camaradarie and insight. I will do anything to make this better for him! 1
VolFan Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 If he plays Minecraft with friends let him do it as much as he wants. Get outside and be safe but spend time with him. Good nutrition and plenty of hydration. It. Sucks.
Super User Koz Posted November 26, 2021 Super User Posted November 26, 2021 My 16 year old son has had Covid twice. The second time he had it he had been vaccinated and had his booster shot. The first time he had it, he did have labored breath and chest pains for a few days, but nothing life threatening. The second time it was like a mild case of the flu. Being 16, he kept busy on his phone and playing on his computer. But mostly he just slept. Of course, that could also be because he is 16. Books and games will keep your kid busy. If they are isolating alone in their room, get a few walkie talkies or use a phone or tablet to face time to keep in constant communication. 1

It’s extremely expensive and not widely available. Just do what you’ve been doing and make sure it doesn’t keep spreading. Some fresh air would help as long as in close proximity to others. 1
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 26, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 26, 2021 Best advice I can give you is to consult your doctor or, if you don't have one, call an urgent care clinic for advise. While we can offer sympathy and comfort, none of us here are physicians. 1 1
