Punching/flipping combo

Hi guys, so with the black Friday coming, I was looking to buy a new combo for punching/flipping. For the rod, I was looking at the megabass levante Aklys rod or the daiwa tatula heavy flipping rod, do you have any insight on any of them? As for the reel, I tried the tatula line last summer and I loved it, so the tatula elite p/f seemed like a good option. What do you think? Do you have other recommendations? Much appreciated.

My punching .. flipping rods r completely different animals. 
The P/F reel I love  or a Sv for either technique. 
What kind of cover r u taking about punching?

Just a head-up on the AKLS...it's a 2-piece rod. Not sure if that matters to you or not.

 

Personally I use a 7'11" Expride for my punching....strictly for punching. Great rod, but it is a little more pricey compared to the rods you mention. Obviously it's 20% off for the TW Black Friday sale.

Have a look at the Irod Gen III 7'7" 775c. I have a few Irods, fish way above the price point, and customer service is Excellent.

The Dobyns Xtreme 795 Flip/Punch is my really really good. Very light and perfectly balanced.  If you get the Elite you will love it.  Good shopping!

Punching heavy matts. Around the end of the season, might need a 2oz weight to go through them

1st watch Gary Klein video on flipping-pitching. Gary knows his stuff and recommends the type rods/reels to use.

If you're punching heavy mats, I'd suggest getting a rod just for doing so. It's one of those techniques that really takes specialized equipment if you're going to do it often.

Picked up a dobyns champion 766 flip and will be pairing it with a tat elite p/f. Rod is rated up to 2.5 oz I believe. I typically punch with 1oz around here, 1.5 max
