Thinking about taking my guys fishing trip next year. Just curious where you would go in the country, and what time of the year would you go?  Thought it would be interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts!

What is your target species?

Yeh I forgot to mention that lol. Bass…mainly lmb but any kind of bass if you want. Just where would you pick if you had 4 days to just fish. Maybe TVA lakes, Kentucky lake, ozarks…and prespawn, postspawn, fall…

Want to hear specifics

Ol' Mexico. If cost is an issue I'd go to Okeechobee in late winter.

I used to travel quite a bit to fish. My top 2 lakes to visit in the early spring would be KY Lake and Guntersville. I have fished both lakes multiple times. Neither lake is easy to fish and I haven't been to KY Lake since before the Asian carp invasion so while It's at the top of my list, that's based on pre Asian carp.

Day 1 - Guntersville Lake at  Scottsboro, Alabama       Day 2 - Guntersville Lake at Guntersville, Alabama for largemouth;

Day 3 and 4 - Pickwick Lake near Florence, Alabama for smallmouth;

Coincidentally, this is a trip I am making in late April with a couple additional days so I can fish Dale Hollow Lake on the way back home to Maryland.

Okeechobee

Early December to mid February

Toho

Late January to early April

Either lake and a few others I wouldn’t hesitate to fish in the same time frame just tweaked a little….

Rodman, Stick Marsh, Headwaters, St John’s River etc

If I could go anywhere it would be small mouth fishing where AJ fishes.  A more realistic goal is a reservoir near Tepic Mexico, called Presa Pocho.  I am going to go there for 4 days over Thanksgiving.  I haven't fished there since early June,  I will camp, and fish out of my kayak.  I probably wont see another sport fisherman the whole time.  Should be a good buzz bait bite.  If I had the money I would go to Baccarac on a guided trip.

Ok so if focusing on lmb, would you pick to go prespawn or postspawn if you had just one trip a year?

The lakes I posted and others will have fish in all stages.

With some variations North to South…
There’ll be more pre spawn late January to late March
More post spawn late February to late April timeframe.

Well for brown bass I would head to Lake Erie or St Clair first week of May. For largemouth I would head to Rodman Reservoir Dec, Jan or early Feb. If your willing to leave the country I would head to lake Baccarac in the late fall.

Add one more day and stop off at Chichamauga on way to Dale Hollow.

I hear you.  I have 2 plans.  TVA lakes then Dale Hollow, and save Chickamauga for a long weekend; or Chickamauga then TVA lakes, and save Dale Hollow for a long weekend.  Either way, I will be on Chickamauga in the Spring!

Lake Dunmore in Salisbury VT. I got robbed when I was there but that's a stunningly beautiful lake. Difficult fishing, but they have giants.
