tnbassfisher Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I'm finally mobile. Today I bought a Pelican Castaway 116 Angler Kayak. Hopefully I can get some pics on her in the next couple of days. For any of you that have fishing kayaks: What are some of the first accessories that you would add? Quote
tnbassfisher Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 I have one around here somewhere. But I can't find the darn thing! Quote
morts10 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Life Jacket. Anchor trolley, anchor with rope float, might even consider trolley on both sides of kayak. milk crate or tackle bag with hard bottom. paddle leash, scupper plugs. The weight capacity of the boat is the limit. ;D It's a whole new world of fishing once you get off the bank. Just remember when you drop something now if its not tied to you or the boat it is gone. :'( If kayaks are new to you I would spend some time just paddling around to get a feel for it and this will help you decide what you need and where to mount accessories. Might want to practice getting in and out of the boat while in the water. There are pros on this site who will give you more info than I can so be patient. Good luck and have fun. mort Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 lets start here first, congrats on your kayak, take a swing by sometime and talk with the real deal kayak fishermen http://www.kayakbassfishing.com/ This is the Premier Kayak Fishing site without a doubt. Look at what your needs are and look at your budget. A PFD and your paddle are 2 very very important factors in your day...the paddle is what motors your boat, so the lighter the better, no need to spend a mint but a very nice paddle can be had under $250, and some under $200. Not sure if you have one but look at Bending Branches Slice Angler, a great paddle at a great price. Your PFD, well it may save your life someday. I have a Mustang inflatable. Look at seats, anchor trolleys like mentioned above, anchor kits, leashes, the list goes on. heres a place to shop, one of theeee best I've found. http://www.austinkayak.com/ you can find the BB paddle there also. Good Luck Quote
tnbassfisher Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Thanks for the help, guys! The kayak came with a cheap paddle, but hopefully I can upgrade soon. Quote
