I have the cub rewards too. It’s actually 10 cents off per $100 spent. I also have a Luther card for 10 cents off per gallon. I filled up yesterday at $3.18 and it was $2.68 after my discounts. I’ll go ahead and complain that gas is priced way too high. Peak summer travel season is long over and it should have been dropping since Labor Day. It’s pretty much been stuck around 3 bucks/gal here all summer, or a little higher. Natural gas has skyrocketed and that’s what most people use to heat their homes here. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted November 20, 2021 Global Moderator Posted November 20, 2021 I’m very fortunate that I have a company vehicle that I get to take home, so my personal vehicle gets about 50 miles put on it a week. My company vehicle on the other hand, I go through a tank every other day and average about 40k miles a year. I’d go broke if I had to pay for all that gas. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 20, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 20, 2021 This is a pretty good article that explains the current situation, along with a prediction of lower prices coming soon... https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/19/oil-falls-to-six-week-low-on-lockdown-concerns.html 2 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted November 20, 2021 Super User Posted November 20, 2021 My uncle who drives truck told me there’s also a shortage of truck drivers in almost every industry, which includes gasoline tanker drivers to deliver fuel to the stations. 1 Quote

Bingo! That is one of the problems. 1 Quote

My brother is an owner operator. Been driving for 35 years. He's made more money in the last 2 years than he has ever made in 35 years of driving. His added expenses are getting passed along to the end user. Quote
desmobob Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 I watched a documentary not too long ago that showed how "freight brokers" (or something like that) had managed to shoehorn themselves into the trucking industry between the drivers and the suppliers and were tapped into the money flow and making the business very stressful and unprofitable for drivers and unappealing for potential new drivers. I don't know if this is really the case, but it was my take-away from the show. Maybe the shortage and the shipping situation will make things better for the drivers and things will improve for them. I hope so. Quote

I hope so. It's all relative. My brother works with brokerage company's. He has a reefer trailer and runs mostly medical supplies because it pays the most. He used to run produce which pays half or less than medical. He's currently grossing $5K-$8k a week depending on what he hauls. Fortunately, he's got enough time behind the wheel he can pick and choose what he hauls. 1 Quote

Super User Bird Posted November 21, 2021 Super User Posted November 21, 2021 Oh wow, isn't there many competitive jobs out there? Why aren't they being filled?......curious. 1 Quote

Minus fuel costs, he has $100k in expenses annually just with truck/trailer payments and insurance. Add in maintenance costs and whatnot, it's not an easy deal. Take a look at Mike Rowe and what he's been doing to promote job growth in the less than glamorous industries. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted November 21, 2021 Author Super User Posted November 21, 2021 Just drove by another Chevron station this evening, and noticed that Premium was $ 5.39 per Gal. I use to use Chevron Diesel all the time, not a fan of them any longer. Quote
