The spybait would be another for me. It looks good, and I try it, probably more than I should, but it just doesn't produce for me.

Curious, what are you throwing it on? I think the spybait is one of the most misused baits. Most people I see are either throwing it on way too heavy a line or trying to retrieve it too fast.

I will add the # of fish caught

Wake bait: 0

chatterbait.  3

swim jig; 1

big plastic swim bait: 1

whopper plopper: 0

megabass dark sleeper: 0

(this one is embarrassing).  Carolina Rig: 0!

spinnerbait: 0!

year 2022, I’m looking at you!  I’ll try to change some of those ZEROS..

I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm a finesse guy, and use soft plastics 99% of the time.

I've never used most of the stuff you listed, and still catch plenty of fish.

Use what works for you and be happy.

I find that the bait that works is the one that I'm keying on. Most of my success/failures can be attributed to my attitude about a given lure. Case in point: This time of year I'm typically throwing neds, bladebaits, and dark sleepers. This year I'm keying on jerkbaits and having a lot of fun. It's taken me time to gain confidence in them and now I really enjoy using them. Are they the best bait at the moment? Yes and no. I'm sure there are instances that I would be getting better numbers on my finesse baits but I'm enjoying fishing them so they get more game time.

7' ml spinning rod with 10lb braid to a 6lb leader. I get snagged on the bottom a lot so I can't imagine I'm fishing it too fast.

Do pike count?  lol

Because I can catch pike on just about anything.

Bass, not so much.  Drop shot and whopper plopper are definitely two lures that come to mind that I rarely catch a bass on, even when I dedicate a fair amount of time to them.
