The most important thing I have learned on Bass Resource.

The one thing I've taken from being a member here is that moral, helpful, people are still the majority in our society even though it may appear otherwise at times and most of them are bass anglers.?

It’s important to be plugged into the community.  You can’t get more plugged into bass fishing than being a member on this forum.  If a new trend comes along,  I know I will hear about it on BR first.

 

I enjoy hearing the different prospectives that are expressed here.  I feel like I know how many of you think and when you say something that surprises me I take notice.  It’s amazing how many different ways there are to enjoy this sport.   For many it’s about finding and using the best equipment.  Others are into tournaments.  Many seem to enjoy collecting lures.  Some are into the history of the sport.  Others enjoy pimping out their boats.  The list goes on.  It’s fun to learn how folks in different parts of the country view the sport.  Many of you seem to think like I do.   Others think very differently.  Some of you think like I did when I was younger.  I enjoy taking it all in.  It helps me question my own thinking on things and makes me a better angler.   Thanks!

After a few moments of reflection regarding this topic, the most important thing I’ve learned on Bass Resource is probably the simplest. That I can always learn more about the various aspects of our sport, and the Bass Resource community makes it happen on a daily basis.

I want to add one more (which came in handy yesterday). How to remove a hook from a gut-hooked bass. 
 

How that bass got gut-hooked is a mystery. It was a 4” Senko on a 3/0 EWG, but it took the bait on the retrieve so I set the hook immediately. But it was gut-hooked. I went through the gills and in a minute or so I had the hook and not one drop of blood. I held it gently in the water until it slowly turned and swam off perfectly fine. 
 

If anyone learns anything on BR, that’s the thing to learn!

I have learned that I'm not completely insane for driving 3 hours away from an ocean full of fish, to fish for bass.

Our school had them too, and there were similar sirens within a radius of the nuclear power plant, and I'm a Gen Xer.

I’ve learned slow down, and to fish more methodical. 
It’s ok if don’t catch anything, relax and enjoy the day. 
  And nobody’s wrong just different in they way they fish, sometimes I like their way better than mine.

This sounds familiar too. I live on a penninsula and have stripers 300 yards from my house but will drive an hour-plus to Plymouth & Cape Cod for SMB …. Go figure.

Exactly. The more you know, the more you realize how little you actually know.

 

BassResource has humbled me many times and has made me take a simpler approach to fishing, which has saved me a lot of time and money!

I'm new here, but I'm thoroughly enjoying reading y'all's posts and gaining perspective.  I've learned there is a community of bass fishermen who are obsessed but reasonable, witty and entertaining. 

Oh, and I've learned to see the bait monkey coming ...
