mbleming Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Hi, I’m looking to get a Shimano Calcutta Conquest to pair with a 7ft glass rod. I’ll be using it for shallow cranks, wake baits up to 1 ounce, and small swim baits like the Deps Slide Swimmer 115 and Gan Craft Jointed Claw 128…Which Calcutta would be better suited, the 100 size or the 200 size? I like to idea of the smaller 100 but I’m wondering if the 200 makes more sense…thanks! Quote
newapti5 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 If you're talking about the new 2021 Calcutta CQ, I'd suggest the 200 size. The new 100 size is tiny; I use it for 1/4~3/8oz finesse jigs. Here's a picture of the 100 size one. I am 6' tall with regular size hands. 1 Quote

The 100 only hold 10lb 110 yds while 200 you can get 12lb 130yds or you can up size to 15lb and still have enough line capacity. The new conquest, Shimano designed palm side plate to be smaller than handle side plate for more compact and more comfortable when palming. I think the CQ100 as small as old CQ50. Quote

Yep, that has been confirmed, and that's one of the reasons why I got the 100 size of '21 model instead of the BFS model. Forgot to mention one thing though: this is a JDM reel from Amazon.jp. I haven't seen it on TW yet, so the USDM model in the future may be different. Quote
Super User ATA Posted November 12, 2021 Super User Posted November 12, 2021 conquest BFS is nice, But I am not sure about 1oz for creek, The headiest I did was 1/8oz. Quote
mbleming Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 Is the new CQ 100 smaller than the Calcutta Bfs? I just got the CQ bfs and now wonder if the CQ 100 would’ve been the better choice. Definitely getting the 200 for my glass setup. Thanks everyone! Quote

CQ BFS is more oriented to micro BFS lures, but the 100, though smaller in form, is actually for regular weight class lures. I don't do BFS, but I do a lot of finesse fishing, lures of 1/4~3/4oz in total weight. That's why I got the 100 instead of 200 or BFS. For heavier weight lures that you mentioned, I have this bad boy: Quote

I love the size, haven't had a shimano round reel since the Cardiff 100 and that looks smaller. Would it handle spinnerbaits up to 1/2oz? Quote

If you plan on using #15+ line, the line capacity might be just enough. Quote

mrpao Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 I have two of the 14 Conquest setup as spinnerbait combos. I use 15 lbs line and have no issues with line capacity. But I don't usually bomb cast my spinnerbaits. Quote
