CrashVector Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 This is my box when I go kayak fishing. It has everything in it for every type of fishing I do...from bream to bass. Just curious to see how everyone else packs up for a kayak trip. I personally try to bring as little with me as I possibly can, therefore, only my top producing lures make it into this box. 5 Quote
OldManLure Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I target smallmouth. Whether in one of my sit-ins for river, or sit-on for flat water, I carry 3 of the small Ozark Trail bags. One holds my topwater, crank baits and jerkbaits, one is for spinnerbaits, bladed jigs and jigs, and one for worms, soft swim baits, tubes and trailers. They are inexpensive, functional, lightweight, and small enough to easily fit in the limited space of the sit-ins…one between my feet and 3 behind seat. There have been times I’ve been fortunate enough to have only needed 1, but I know me and I know I would feel lost and out of sorts without the other 2. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted November 11, 2021 Super User Posted November 11, 2021 Four 3600s, one spinnerbait/chatterbait box, one small box of terminal, and a 9x5x5 bag of plastics. 1 Quote
JbroBass Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I'm outfitting my kayak now over the winter and plan on going with 4 3700 boxes (1 narrow) and a large binder for plastics. These should fit neatly in the box directly behind my seat. I guess if it somehow is too much I'll fine tune what I'm doing over the course of the fishing season. 1 Quote
BassinCNY Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Four 3600's, two 3700's and two big bait bags of soft plastics. I'd bring the kitchen sink if I had room. 1 Quote

Super User Cgolf Posted November 11, 2021 Super User Posted November 11, 2021 I am with Crash on this one. I carry one 3700 hydro flow box with a small selection of cranks I know will work, some plastics pre rigged on slider heads and a spin frog and some spare jigs and snaps. Not a whole lot different than what I take in the boat. Rods though are 2 uglies in the kayak. A 6’6” medium spin and I believe a 5’6” BC. Next year though I will be adding a spinnerbait or two to the kit. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted November 11, 2021 Super User Posted November 11, 2021 Bait Monkey is responsible for everything in the picture except for the blue bag, that's my lunch, but I have to confess, I have thrown an A rig in with my lunch before. Yes I need it all, and I'm still buying more. That is my story and I'm sticking to it. 4 2 Quote

I also usually carry 6-12 juglines. I find I enjoy myself more if I'm not spending time searching thru 5 or 6 boxes, etc 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 11, 2021 Global Moderator Posted November 11, 2021 My kayak tackle box is a modified rolling tool box I bought from Walmart. Holds 3-4 3700 boxes, 3 gallon bags of plastics, all my fishing tools and "go" baits in the top compartments. https://www.walmart.com/ip/HART-24in-Rolling-Tool-Box-Resin-Tool-Storage-Black-with-Blue/735517326 3 Quote
CountryboyinDC Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I use a crate I made from modular cube storage, PVC, and zip ties and 4-5 3600 boxes usually. Also some terminal tackle in (1 or 2) 3600 boxes in pouches under the seat. I always have soft plastics in a binder in the front hatch to keep them from melting and the ones I use under the seat. It seems like a lot until you run out of whatever they were hitting.0 2 Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted November 11, 2021 Super User Posted November 11, 2021 In warm water I'll take a box with most of my favorite topwaters. I'll throw in whatever hardbaits I think I might want. In cooler water I'll do the same, but with cranks. And I'll take a bag of whatever soft plastics I might need to replace. ie: I always take some jig trailers. If I'm using worms or any other soft plastic, I take a bag of them. That's about it. I take 6 or 7 rods with me most of the time so I have a good variety of what I think bass will bite already tied on. I don't lose many lures because I fish a mostly shallow lake and I'm in the kayak. So if I'm snagged I can just go retrieve the lure. 27 minutes ago, CrashVector said: I also use rod tethers...heard too many horror stories not to lol I recently dropped a rod in for the first time in my 51 years on this planet. Luckily, the water was about 2' deep and I was able to snag it with another hook. I didn't really drop it though. I had it in my crate rod holder and took another rod out. This one snagged the other and in it went. 1 Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I keep almost my entire collection of baits in a Yakattack Blackpak and three Plano KVD Speedbags full of plastics. I'd wager the Blackpak weighs 60 pounds and the plastics I carry weight about another 30 pounds. I never come close to using it all, but it's easier for me to just grab the stuff and go than constantly switching different baits into different boxes. My crate is filled from end to end with tackle sorted into individual 3600s and 3700s. My plastics are sorted in the speedbags. I always have seven rods with me, and it's the rods that are changed out from trip to trip. I think I have about 20 different setups that could make the cut on any given day. 3 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 11, 2021 Super User Posted November 11, 2021 5-6 3700 size Edge boxes, an FTO spinnerbait wallet, and a Speed Bag or two. 3 Quote
Scott804 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 3-7 3700s. Spinnerbait box. Plastics storage. Depends on the time of year and whether or not it is a tournament. Usually have 3-5 rods. I like having options. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted November 12, 2021 Super User Posted November 12, 2021 spinnerbait box, a edge deep box holding terminal tackle, jigs, some frogs, some other random stuff like spare skirts, blade box for spinnerbaits, and loose bags of soft plastics that are stored in the storage compartment bags the kayak came with. I'm looking at getting a speedbag instead for waterproofing 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 12, 2021 Super User Posted November 12, 2021 Conventional fishing I take 5 or 6 3700 boxes, i think that is the size. Fly fishing i take a couple two sided streamer boxes and 2-3 3700 boxes. They all go in the same crate, I just swap out certain baits/flies certain times of year. Certain river trips I may also pare down what I take a lot if I know what the fish are hitting on. Quote

I've got a whole crate, so I fill 'er up. I think I have 8-10 3600's in it, plus a 3700 edge terminal box. Then I have a 6th Sense soft plastic bag filled to the point it won't zipper shut. In all reality, it's not that much tackle. But I'm prepared for most conditions or situations I run into on the water. 1 Quote
GTN-NY Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 My crate holds 5 3700 boxes and has 8 rod holders. I also have 3 more 3700 boxes holder my seat 2 Quote
thediscochef Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 The few times I've gotten off the shore I've brought my shore stuff and been just fine. One plano 3449 double-sided. I have about every lure type I have ever used just in that one box. Whopper plopper, chatterbait, jointed bluegill, rebel popr, pad crasher Jr, TX rig stuff, and live bait beak hooks. I only ever use the chatterbaits tho 1 Quote

You put all of that in a kayak? 30 pounds of plastics is about 120 bags of 5 inch Senkos (at 11 grams per worm). All that weight would be a good workout! Quote

All that weight would be a good workout! I'd guess that's about what my box weighs when it's loaded for the day. The box by itself is listed at a little over 13lbs with nothing in it. Add in all the hard baits, jigs, weights, plastics, tools, and accessories, 60lbs is pretty easily attainable. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 19, 2021 Super User Posted November 19, 2021 I weighed what I carry in the crate for a review and it ended up being 27 lbs. I don't think I carry as much as I could, but it's everything I need for whatever is thrown at me any particular day. 2 Quote

Having fished from a small boat, I guess I got used to carrying less over the years and have more multi purpose combos. In the boat I have 5-6 bass rods and 1-2 musky rods. In the Kayak I do a M spin and a M or MH BC and just change lures a lot. I know this question goes out to a lot of folks that carry a lot of combos. Quote
