my son purchased a new Daiwa Procyon AT LT spinning reel approx 8-9 months ago, he was having problems the anti reverse was not working all the time and the spool started to wobble, seemed like excessive play, he took it back to the dealer and the dealer told him to pack it up with the sales invoice and ship it to Daiwa. about a week later he gets a call that the reel is repaired, but there is a lubrication charge and shipping charges, they told him $90 plus dollars, he said he thought the warranty was 100% covered, rather than pay the near 100 dollars, he just said send the reel back, the lady on the phone said the technician will not release the reel unless payment is made. this reel cost him $179.00 my feeling is Daiwa should have contacted him before doing the repairs and tell him there would be a 90 some dollar charge, how can we get this reel back, and the warranty is puzzling, this should have been 100% covered, is Daiwa's warranty going south.

I had something similar happen to me about 2 years ago. I wouldn't cross the street to spit on Daiwa"s factory personnel. The Tackle Trap down in Boaz, Alabama does Daiwa warranty work, and they're far, far better than the factory.        jj

Wow! That’s terrible I have had a great experience with Daiwa customer service. Sent me know rods after sending them in when guides broke off and sent me replacement parts for reels for no cost. I sure hope what you’re experiencing isn’t the typical experience and that they work it out for you.

No experience with Daiwa, but I think I'd be making a few more phone calls before you send them any more money.  Hopefully you just caught someone on a bad day.

If you find out that is their standard business practice, it's worth making some noise over.

Coming from a sales/service background people are generally willing to help as long as you don't attack them personally.

$90 for lubrication and shipping charges is ridiculous.  Shame on Daiwa.

I've never used a manufacturer's warranty.  I've sent brand new reels to DVT for cleaning and proper lubrication.  At least then I knew it was done right.

HUCA (Hang Up, Call Again). That's a nonsense response from them, someone had a bad day or something. Or maybe a new person.

FWIW the one time I needed warranty from daiwa the issue was arguably my issue not theirs, and they treated it really well ie they fixed it anyway.

I can attest to Tackle Trap customer service. Second to none. And they do warranty work, as stated by jimmyjoe.

update on this reel, i figured i'd take it apart, very easy on this model, went thru a few steps and i think i found the problem, it was a sticking anti reverse roller bearing, i washed it out and a few other parts in the area, lubed the bearing with CLP and ect, i was able to test the anti reverse bearing and bingo, cleaned and lubed the gearcase and resembled it, it works as it should now, if it should happen again i know the exact part to order, i will give it back to my son, he puts them thru the test. the anti reverse switch works 100% of the time now, Daiwa could have fixed this reel in a heartbeat. 90 bucks saved ect.
