The 2021 steez ct sv tw has nosebleed high pricing and availability has been pushed back, so not an option right now. Available for pre-order but availability, in view of the current supply chain issues, might be problematic. My order was placed a month ago and was recently pushed out a month from the previous estimate. Quote
ABrugs Posted November 11, 2021 Author Posted November 11, 2021 Does anyone know or have any insight into what new high-end reels Shimano might be releasing in 2022? I know they just re-modeled the Metanium in 2020 so that’s likely off the table. When was the last time the Aldebaran was refreshed? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 11, 2021 Super User Posted November 11, 2021 Well, I have several "favorites", but to pick just one, that would be a GLX MBR 842C/ Core 50 Mg7/ Tatsu #12. 2 1 Quote

ABrugs Posted November 11, 2021 Author Posted November 11, 2021 That's an awesome setup, @roadwarrior. My personal fishing season up here will be ending at the end of November and I'll be selling my current combos immediately after that to get ready. Needless to say, this thread is getting me amped. ^ I do still think the NRX+ 842 MBR w/ the Aldebaran MGL 50 will be the ideal setup for me. Now, I'll need to start thinking about what's next after that. ? Quote
GReb Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 This is going to be unpopular but I didn’t find anything special about the Bantam. It looks cool and is an absolute tank but performance wise it didn’t stand out for the price. In fact I replaced two Bantams with SLX MGLs and am just as satisfied. That reel is amazing for the price (I paid $89 each) The new Metanium is the best performing Shimano I have owned. I’d really like to add a few more this winter. Quote

Going to be a couple Bantam's in there if you are looking for any more. Any St. Croix legends in there? Classifieds of BR? Quote

Dumbbassanglr Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 I have a few nrx+ and a bunch of Shimano reels. My all time combo is my conquest 844mbr and metanium b. 1 Quote
freelancer27 Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 For the reel I would support the Antares 70 as well, but would even more so suggest the Steez A with an additional SV spool. That provides a single, super flexible option where you can bomb anything above 3/8oz with the Steez A' s original spool and go very finessy with the SV spool and/ or skip lures effortlessly . When it comes to the rod I would suggest maybe a NRX + 893c, a NRX 804c or a Megabass Super Destroyer. I am also hearing a lot of good things about the new Steez lineup. Personally I am not a big fan of the new reel seat. But that might just be me. Doing research on a new quality fishing combo is almost as exciting as actually fiahing it, imo. Enjoy! ? Quote

Enjoy! ? I agree w/ you 100%! The even better part for me is I’ve never owned anything like we’re talking about in this thread and that adds to the excitement. Fishing is about the entire experience for me and the rod/reel I’m using is a big part of that overall experience. 1 Quote

ABrugs Posted November 24, 2021 Author Posted November 24, 2021 As I’ve been doing research and a lot of thinking about this, I’m really curious and interested to hear what thoughts would be on looking into the IMX-PRO 842 MBR paired w/ a Shimano Curado MGL 70 K versus going right to the top for my first venture into G. Loomis? ^ The IMX would still be the nicest rod I’ve ever had, by far. Also, it looks like I’d be able to fit around 100 yards of 12# Tatsu on the Curado, which is a decent amount more than the Aldebaran. Ultimately, I think I might like having something to look forward to by working my way up through the different rod lines every year. Quote
ABrugs Posted January 10, 2022 Author Posted January 10, 2022 I wanted to provide an update to my OP: I ordered my G. Loomis NRX+ 842 MBR and my Shimano Aldebaran MGL 50 HG this morning! The rod will be here this week and the reel hopefully within the next couple of weeks. I won't be able to use this for a couple of months up here in Michigan, but it will feel like Christmas morning once I get the chance! 6 Quote
