Suggest a lipless?

In search of a lipless that will flutter when falling on a yo-yo retrieve.  Essential trying to slow the rate of fall a bit, but still heavy enough to throw on a M/F or MH/MF casting rod.  

 

Suggestions?

For yo-yoing retrieve, I like red eyes Shad a lot especially 1/4oz. I don’t use many brand though just some luckycraft, rat-l-trap Rapala and cheap old cotton Cordell.

One of the "lighter" lipless on the market is the Cotton Cordell.  Their 1/2oz sinks slower than a Rat-L-Trap and has a higher pitch rattle, like maybe the rattles are smaller?  The Red Eye sinks faster than either of those IMO.  If I want something that sinks slower or retrieves higher in the water I use the Cotton Cordell.  If I want it deeper then I use the Trap.  I haven't had much luck with the Red Eye in comparison.  Occasionally the Tungsten 2 Tap has worked but those drop like an anchor.

Lots of traps on the market that will have a decent shimmy on the fall. Give the Thunderhawk Sergeant a look, I've been impressed with it so far. I would recommend swapping the split rings, though.

Not familiar with this one, but it looks like the rattle is a 3/4 oz and the 1/2 oz is silent.  Is that right?  Only did a quick search on TW.

That is correct. They're a new company so I was iffy about it, but I've got one of the silent ones and a handful of the rattling ones and they are very nice. Sticky sharp short shank EWG trebles, rotating hook hangers, durable paint, etc. They have a tight wobble, a nice shimmy on the fall, and they rest nose down on the bottom every time. My only complaint is the split rings, but in fairness I swap split rings on pretty much every lure so....

The RES 2 Tap is my favorite with the fluttering fall by a long shot.

Three out of the past four years my largest bass has been caught on a Red Eye Shad yo-yoing it off the bottom on points . 20 to 25 fow,

Watched a video on Bass U the other day, it was KVD talking about lipless baits.  He said the red eyed shad was designed to have that shimmy when you let it drop during a yo yo retrieve.  Hard to argue with much that man says!

Fair enough.  If you come across the video where he shares his modifications, I'll be needing that... And I'm not just talking about changing out hardware ?

That pretty much describe the RES.  Not my favorite vibe bait, but it is the best shimmy on the fall.

i have good success with rapala rippin rap and bill Lewis rat L trap

I fish a lot from a flat bottom aluminum boat . I can actually hear the RES go tic, tic , tic when its falling,  regular and two-tap . I can hear  strikes too .

Don't give up on them. I have had two PB's on them including my most recent.

Yo-Zuri lipless haveca good swimming action on the fall and up graded hardware hooks etc.

One knock Rattling Vibe 5/8 oz in black/silver and blue chrome. 3DB 1/2 oz in prism Shad and Gold black.

My previous PB was also on a RES, one of my favorite lipless cranks.

What you are wanting to do with the bait I agree with everyone else,  Red Eye Shad. Others will work but none that I have tried shimmy on the fall like a RES.

Spro Akuru Shad gives a good shimmy on the fall. It also comes with better hooks than the RES.

I have a good selection of Red Eye Shads and they sure work well!

 

Truth is, I previously had a bunch of Bill Lewis Rat-L-Traps and Cotton Cordell Super Spots and they sure worked well, too, but I read so much good stuff about Red Eye Shads, I started buying them instead.  If budget was my first priority, I'd fish Super Spots happily.

 

Of those three brands, I do believe the RES are probably the best of the bunch.  I think those are the only three brands of lipless cranks I've tried.

I’ve had good luck with the old strike king diamond shad.  It glides and spirals out of control on the fall, very erratic.  Bass seem to like it.  Kinda like a tube jig falling.
