Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 7, 2021 Super User Posted November 7, 2021 Randy Santa to use a spinning. I think I’ll actually work the bait better with my right hand holding the rod. I’ll try it next time. thought? Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted November 7, 2021 Super User Posted November 7, 2021 I like both spinning & casting but the spinner does allow using your dominate right arm more efficiently. The best outfit to use is the one you feel most comfortable using. I like a medium heavy moderate rod with 1oz max rating for using braid with a leader and a medium heavy extra fast with a 1oz max rating if using straight mono/flouro. 2 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted November 7, 2021 Super User Posted November 7, 2021 I always work the bait with my right hand. Grew up fishing spinning that way. Saw no reason to change when I started fishing baitcasters. My jerkbait rod is an ARK Tharp One Eyed Jack, with a Curado BFS 8 speed. This setup takes a lot of the work out of it. I don't throw'em much but having a proper rod and a fast reel has made it less unenjoyable for me. 2 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 7, 2021 Super User Posted November 7, 2021 I use spinning and casting rods for jerkbaiting, all medium Kistler KLXs, depending on jerkbait size/weight. I use 6’6” and 6’9” casting and had a custom 6’9” spinning rod made to match my casting rod. I use Seaguar Invizx on all the reels and work with my left hand, which seems natural to me. Quote
newapti5 Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 My rod choice for jerkbaits is baitcaster fast action for 1/2+oz lures, baitcaster mod-fast for 1/4~1/2oz lures, and spinning setup for anything below 1/4oz. Both my baitcasters and spinning reels are left-handed. Quote
jbrew73 Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 Randy Santa? I use a baitcaster and megabass levante jerkbait rod. I tried several other rods and this one is perfect for me. I am left handed but use casting or spinning rods in my left hand/ reels in my right. I’m not sure what is normal but that’s what works for me. I don’t actually even keep I spinning rod in the boat. Super User ATA Posted November 8, 2021 Super User Posted November 8, 2021 I have two: First one my spinning Conquest 842 SJR spooled with 15lb samurai braid and 20 yards leader saguaro 6lb invizX for smaller and lighter jerkbaits which I use mostly on river and cricks and second one conquest 842C my baitcaster with 10lb tatsu and I use this one mostly on lakes. Super User J._Bricker Posted November 8, 2021 Super User Posted November 8, 2021 My primary combination for jerkbaits/poppers isn’t the latest or greatest, but I’m very happy with how they perform. A couple of 7ft Shimano Crucial MH with Curado 201IHG’s, spooled up with 30lb Power Pro and a 10lb Seaguar InvisX leader make ‘em dance… Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 8, 2021 Global Moderator Posted November 8, 2021 My main jerkbait rod is a 6' 9" MH/MF Okuma TCS. I use a 7' ML/F Falcon Bucoo SR spinning rod for small jerkbaits. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted November 8, 2021 Super User Posted November 8, 2021 Shimano Zodias 6'10" Med/Mod Fast casting. Here she is posing with her sisters. 1 Quote
thunderblack Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 I have fished these for jerkbaits and they were all great but the MB Valkyrie was the best. Megabass valkyrie 6-11 M spinning Shimano crucial 6-10 M spinning GLX 842S spinning SC Xtreme 7' M spinning MB orochi XX ronin SC Legend Tourney 7-1 M Quote
Capt No Fish Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 I have only every fished jerk baits on a casting rod. I use 40 LB power pro to a 10LB mono leader. Why 40 LB because I have a spool and that is the only size braid I have on my reals except the 15lb on my spinning setups. I try to keep as simple as possible. My rod of choice is a Falcon Lowrider Weightless Worm. It's a 6' 7" with a very soft tip so I get the convenience of a bait baster with the action of a spinning rod. Quote
mrpao Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 I use both casting and spinning combos. Casting for normal size lures and spinning for the lighter stuff. 2X shimano aldebaran with 6'10" med expride. 10 to 12 lbs fluro. Daiwa exist LT 2000 with 6'10" med light expride. 10 lbs braid to 8 lbs leader. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted November 8, 2021 Super User Posted November 8, 2021 I prefer casting set ups. I have a pair of Dobyns Champions, a 704CB With a Tatula Elite and 10 lb Invizex and a 684CB with the same reel but 8 lb Invizex. Even though both have moderate actions the blanks rebound quickly so the snap the baits to get them to react. Quote
