Since I don't really need any new rods or reels this year, I thought I would make this Black Friday or general offseason more interesting by adding a few new lures (that I don't really need). Of course, I have a few that I do as well and a few others that I just want to try.

Name me a specific lure (model and color etc) that you would suggest to a fellow angler to try out.

I'm going to add a few to my list to make things exciting next year.

If you aren't opposed to spending a pretty penny then the Deps Pulsecod is an interesting popper. It has a little spring and BB inside that lightly "vibrates" on the pause of your retrieve. It has done really well buying those couple extra bites for me. Really good on schooling spots or shallow smallmouth. The bigger size is perfect for a casting rod.

A tool that would also go well with that is a Yum Dinger in tin foil on either weightless EWG or weighted wacky hook. Makes for a great follow up for missed topwater blowups. I really like the color, very dense with chrome flake and it looks like a bunch of shredded shad scales.

Another fun one (if you can get your hands on it) is the Jackall Bounty Fish. Would also pair well with the Dinger. I can't do the thing justice in text form - look up a video, it is quite the lure.

Creme Lure's 3.75in. Craw (Bama craw) and 4in. Creature.  I like their craw better than the PacaCraw (more action) and they're cheaper. The other is the Bagley Pro Sunny B (orange belly gill). It's a silent flat sided squarebilled balsa crank that casts exceptionally well and runs slightly deeper than most (5-6ft.)

Thanks guys! This is what I'm talking about and should provide some fun time on the water next year for sure trying something different.

I'm not opposed if they work. My go to poppers are the Megabass. They are expensive, but they pop and walk real well and I rarely lose them.

What are some techniques you're looking to explore or dial in?

Honestly at this point I'm game for anything.

I haven't really thought about this so much lately to be honest, but I can look at a couple of vacations I'll be taking for an idea. I'll be heading to North Carolina in April, and likely doing a good amount of structure fishing. I imagine I'll probably go out with a jig or maybe a T-Rig along with various moving and reaction baits when I'm down there. In June, I'll be at a lake which has a shallow weedy side and a deep not so weedy side. I imagine deep diving crankbaits might see some use on the deeper side, but anything should be fair game really.

I picked up some of the Nichols Pulsators with he colorado blade last year and had some success with them, but I haven't got a Covert yet. I'm especially interested in the double Indina blades. I have the River2Seas with a large Indiana and small colorado blade and those are my dirty water spinnerbaits.

Those Megabass poppers are awesome. Those things walk like no other popper I have ever used. I've fished spooks harder to walk than the MB popper. I use a combination of the Deps, MB, & an occasional KVD Splash Pop. I'd like to try a Rico but just haven't gotten around to it.

On a trip to Florida last spring I was introduced to Gambler Lures.  They were common place down there, but not so much here in PA.  Since you're also from the north, maybe they're new to you?  Here's what I've used from them:

The Burner Worm is very versatile... Swim it, buzz it, pitch it, drag it around.

The Burner Craw is a good pitching/flippin bait and would also make a good trailer.

They use the Big EZ (5") down there.  You can swim it subsurface or burn it over/through vegetation like an all-terrain buzzbait.  I brought that home with me and found the EZ swimmer size (4.25") on a 1/8oz swimbait hook with a centering pin works well on my water.

The BB Cricket is a small but mighty flippin bait.  I think it gives them something different to look at than the usual craw or beaver, and it doesn't have any flappy appendages to get hung up while punching thick vegetation.

+1 for the Deep Little N. I have one but should buy some more.

Getting some good stuff here, keep me coming. A few years ago, I did this with crankbaits and got a bunch of good ones.

I don’t have anything low-key or different to suggest but I finished my season on a great spinnerbait bite so I’ll suggest my favorite. My favorite was 3/4 oz Screamin Eagle in Aurora.

I also want to give a shout out to the Cotton Cordell Red Fin! That thing has long been forgotten but I got a few fish on it and I plan to throw it a lot next year. I’m thinking of throwing the 7” in the early season for some big pike.

Lucky craft pointer 78 in American Shad, I don’t know what it is about this bait but almost every time I fish it I catch big bass. Works equally well on spots, smallies, and largemouth. If the vision 110 actually works better than this bait than I guess I need to try it because it’s magic for me some days

A bait new to me this year that I had great success with, was the 6th. Sense Cloud Nine mini mag Square bill.  Bigger than most square bills, but not giant like the magnums.  Was just the right size for my lake.  I had never tried a crankbait this size and am glad I did.  Best colors were Chart. Black and shad scales.  This square bill quickly became my favorite crankbait, and I have almost every crankbait ever made that costs under $10.

This year I did pretty well on the Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap in a variety of colors, but I'd have to say that the star of the show was the Sexy Dawg Jr. and a Rebel Pop-R, the sexy shad colors produced pretty well in the summer, and the chrome/reflective colors tended to shine during the fall, I don't think many places are still working with much of a topwater bite, but what fish I have been catching lately have come off jerkbaits (both soft plastic and hard) Ned Rigs, Shakeyhead, and finesse jigs, so anything in those categories you've been looking at would be a great option too.

Gonna sound like an add for 6th sense, but I really like the Provoke, Quake lipless (both the sinking and the suspending), hybrid swim crank, and the hyper jerk. They can be found for good deals on Black Friday and certain times of the year they run insane deals on their site. I have gotten many of their baits on those sales on their site in the 3 to 5 buck range.

Plastics gambler ugly otter and the Arsenal assault bug (holds up better than menace for me) are all very solid.

War Eagle spinnerbaits. I caught a lot of fish over the years on other brands, but fishing those other baits side by side with a war eagle I gave to someone they outfish me 3 to 1 at least. That said Humdingers worked well this year and they are economical.

Anything terminal, it's worth the investment of money as an angler of any fishing style.

If you like to throw JBs or cranks/lipless and want to try something new check out Imas' Suspending Lipless.  Out of the box its a slowly sinks until it gets to about 3 or 4' then suspends.  It like a combination of a lipless and a JB.  Even if it doesn't produce particularly well, its a great tool because it can clue you in on which of the 3 (cranks/lipless and JB) to use that particular day.  Ghost Ayu and Foiled Gill are the top producers although Golden Shad has its moments.

Seibert Outdoors just happens to have 10% off your order right now.

What part of NC you coming to?  Most my luck lately has been 5/16 finess jigs and smaller spinner baits.

War Eagle spinnerbaits have been one of my go to brands for spinnerbaits along with Nichols and River2Sea! Good call.

I am not entirely sure yet to be completely honest. I expect to book a cabin by the month's end when I make my final decision. Basically, some place where it's warmer where I can take the kayaks out and fish in April.

Hog Catcher: This has been mentioned already, but I caught several chunks on a Gambler Burner Worm, but it’s more of a grass thing. Super versatile lure.
