I'm wondering if Fenwick is still popular with BR members here? Mine is a 5'9 HMG med spinning rod. Because of the shorter length, I bought this one new for half price.                                                     Mine is the older tac handle style. It's been a great rod for four years now.                                      Any members here using any Fenwick rods? And, have you had good luck with them? I still tend to think they're a good value.

It's still popular for me. The first "high-end" rod I purchased is a first gen Fenwick Aetos. What a rod, I still use it all the time. I also have their HMX, HMG, World Class, and the new Techna PX, never had any problem with them. To be fair, the sensitivity of Fenwick rod is not the best, but the taper and action is one of my favorites.

I have several of their ultralight, Tennessee handled spinning rods which I use regularly and one of their old pistol grip HMG heavy casting rods.  They used to be considered high end domestically, but now not so much.

My drop shot rod is a HMG 7.0’ med light fast tip
Great rod!

Had an incidental catch while drop shotting the shallows for bass. Ended  up with a 12.5lb carp on the end of my line

The rod handled it like a dream…

I’ve said it before and will again,

One of the best rods made by anyone past or present was their Techna AV.
It was a sad day when they thought they could improve on it and stopped production, and couldn’t.

They know it too

I have at least a half dozen of them.  I have applications for short limber rods that they no longer make so I have switched to Bionic Blades which are inferior.

I have two of the older blue Aetos spinning rods, 6'8" MH/XF. They were my two primary setups before I started using casting gear, I threw everything from senkos to frogs on them, surprisingly versatile rods. I've since gone lighter for my spinning setups, but they are still my go-to for inshore. I got them on clearance for half price, so very happy with the sensitivity for what I paid, but I don't think I'd have been thrilled at the 180 they retailed for.

I recently bought some new old stock (NOS) Fenwick UL spinning rods from the HMG and Gold Wing series, the latter of which was their top-of-the-line UL spinning rod (US domestic market) at the time.  Work wonderfully, but I wouldn't consider new Fenwick rods these days - they are now just a TM brand that was bought out by a conglomerate and the old Fenwick is but a footnote in history.

Their Eagle line has a place in my arsenal. I still use spinning and casting rods I have had for many years.

A medium Eagle spinning rod was all I had for a weekend camping/boating/fishing trip when all my other rods broke in a car door incident. I had to throw everything in my tackle box with that one rod and it was a workhorse for me. It’s been on worm and bobber duty the last 2 years.

I use the 7’ m/f HMG for inshore saltwater fishing.  It’s paired with a 3000 size Penn Battle II with 10 lb power pro. That setup casts really well and has handled some upper slot red drum really well. It’s not the most sensitive rod but for $100 I can’t expect too much more from it.

I picked up a couple of the Elite Tech Smallmouth Spinners,

almost 10 years ago now.

Love, Love - Love these sticks.

Been discontinued for a while so I've been babying them a little.

Even re-wrapped / upgraded the guides one time along the way.

Still see a lot of jerkbait action and have accounted for some great fish & memories for me.

Very happy with them.

Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth ~

I had a 6’6 M/F HMX and 7’2 M/F elite walleye rod. Both were okay, but not what I was looking for so I moved on from them. I found the HMX to be really good for the price point but for a M/F rod it felt almost like a MH/F .

I moved on from them not because they weren’t good, but they just weren’t to my taste. I feel in general, less and less people are talking about Fenwick’s, even compared to 3-4 years ago. Not sure what’s going on but it may just be me

I have a couple HMGs. I've had decent luck with them.

Pretty much my entire quiver says Fenwick on it... most likely a couple in there are older than a few of our members.

Elite tech bass I purchased was not that great weight balance and sensitivity not good. I returned it and got good deal on World Class model much happier with that buy.

No experience with the newer models.  I like my older Fenwicks.  The Elite Tech Smallmouth was a great rod for the price.  As Mike L said, the older Techna AV makes for a pretty decent stick.  :teeth:

Once I got more into baitcast rods I found I didn't like the 6'6" rods nearly as well as longer models.  Then I bought the 6'6" MLM Aetos.  That and the PXL Type R put a smile on my face every time I take the combo out.  Got the rod on closeout.  Wish I'd bought two.

My last visit to Florida found me with only one baitcast reel spooled with braid, and it was for my dedicated frog rod.  As luck would have it I had shipped an older Elite Tech (not the Smallmouth) spinning rod down along with a couple baitcast rods.  The luck is that the only spinning reel I took with me was spooled with braid.  So the 7' MF Elite Tech became the rod I used for casting into the lily pads.  Worked out okay even if it wasn't my first choice.

I use an Aetos 7' mh/fast for jigs up to 3/4oz.. I just flat out enjoy using it. Next Wednesday we're going to our local F&G and throwing nothing but jigs, it's the only rod I'm taking. Brian.
