Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 4, 2021 Super User Posted November 4, 2021 My wife said she would like to try it before or if I sell my Hobie Compass. Hmmm. I would LOVE it if I can get my wife on a great bass bite. Springtime on Clearlake would be almost a no-brainer. She hates being cold so this season might be too late. springtime drop shot bite on in the developing weeds. Hmmm. any 100% rookie wife fishing stories? 1 Quote
JbroBass Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 It can't go any worse than when I tried to get my girlfriend (now wife) into rock climbing! My BIL got my sister into fishing with him. Most days she out-fishes him. I tell him she has superior fishing genetics. 1 Quote

I tried to get my girl friend now wife into paragliding. Just when she was getting to be a good pilot she crashed in to a tree and never wanted to fly again. It worked out in the end, because her not wanting to fly and me not wanting to travel to flying sites with out her, is what got me back in to bass fishing. She tried bass fishing, but like gliding, can't seem to stay out of the trees. Now bass fishing has become my only hobby. Another plus is she lets me use the rod and reel I bought her. 2 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted November 5, 2021 Super User Posted November 5, 2021 Tried to get my lady into it. For a while it worked and she went with me all the time..even caught some fish. But bass fishing...at least around here..is not fast enough bite wise for her. She would go out and ask me what to do and how to do it..then we fish 4 hours I catch 8 and she gets skunked. Then she would get ticked at me as if I was lying or withholding information so I'd have to explain that 30+ years of having a rod and reel in hand just gave me an edge on casting accuracy and bite detection. She stopped going after that. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 5, 2021 Global Moderator Posted November 5, 2021 When my wife and I were first dating, the first time we went fishing she brought a probably 20 year old Zebco 33 combo. I tried to tie a little jighead on below a bobber and the line broke when I cinched the knot down. Repeated that the next few times I tried. Cut off about 10' of line, continued to do it. I'm guessing the line was original and just rotted on the reel. Next trip, we were at Table Rock and I'd bought her a new spinning combo and taught her how to use it. Summer time on Table Rock, so it was slow, but as I was idling back into a creek arm looking at my graph, I saw the water boiling off a point. For the next 2 hours, we caught spots, largemouth, and smallmouth almost every cast. That pretty well spoiled her for a while, as she was expecting it to be like that every time we went fishing. Now, if she can fish a Ned rig and get a fairly consistent smallmouth bite, she's pretty happy and will stick with it for several hours. 2 Quote

I took my kid fishing for his birthday and my fiancée joined us later on her inflatable kayak. We had MH-H and heavy powered rods and were targeting every laydown we could find. I had threw a T-Rig on her MH/F spinning rod, since it's a little bit lighter powered. So she got there late (typical) and we were in a corner of the lake that has some good drop offs but not a lot of laydowns, and meanwhile my kid had snagged a rod tip in a tree, which is pretty easy to do there. So I'm helping him get unstuck and my fiancée catches a 3-4 pounder. She had no idea they put up such a fight and freaked out the whole time. I'm still stuck in the trees and she's afraid to unhook it. Eventually I was able to free myself and she took this picture. Then she caught a two pounder right afterwards. This was one of them, not really a good picture. Quote
Gera Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Bought a kayak for a reason, as soon as my kid is old enough I'll get a boat. Quote
HookInMouth Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 I never go without my wife. Got her an SS127 of her own and she loves it. First year though she got caught sideways on a rock in some rapids and flipped. Well, tilted enough that she fell out. She's awesome though and got right back on and was fine. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted November 10, 2021 Super User Posted November 10, 2021 My wife fished with me once when were dating. She caught all the crappie while I baited her hook. She never went again. I did buy my daughter a kayak but she outgrew that activity. She said I stay too long and fish too hard. So I sold her small kayak and bought myself a new one. I still have my old one if anyone wants to come along. But most of my friends are just too lazy for that. 1 Quote
