I keep bending them out on 1-2 lb bass. One of the trebles had a hook snap clean off the other day. Super sticky stock hooks but very disappointing strength or lack thereof. What are some good replacement hooks and in what size?

Try some owner zo wire STX-45ZN size 6. They are 2X strength. Or you can try zo wire STX-38ZN if you want a lighter hook.

I replace them with either Mustad KVD 1x Strong 2x Short Triple Grip Treble Hook

or

Gamakatsu EWG Treble Short Shank Magic Eye

110's, 110 plus 1's and the 110 Silent all get #4's.

The 110 plus 1 Jr gets #6's

Owner Hyper wires split rings are solid and I’ll always use the oval & or pear shaped versions at the line tie; which prevents the line from slipping into the ring itself.  I hate that.

#2's work for me.

They charge over $20 for a bait the angler imparts most of the action to, and you have to change out the hooks?

They are light wire hooks.  If he’s Using a bait caster or a MH spinning rod with a fast action. Yeah I could see damaging the hooks if he cracked them good on the hook set. Or I’ve bent hooks using pliers unhooking fish

I was debating on using the KVD hooks but, thought they would be too heavy duty as Im casting on a spinning reel.  I didn’t want to change the action but, if that’s what A-jay does than I’m not that worried about

I use a 683c Dobyns and that's just your standard M rod (despite the MH label). I use loose drag with the bait and I reel set. 2lb and under fish are still bending these hooks. They're sharp but weak.

The hooks are designed to be used with a medium light spinning rod which might be why they are getting bent out of shape. I haven't had them bend out on my casting setup yet but they are pretty light wire. I would recommend Gama Aaron Martens G-Finesse trebles. They were basically designed to be 110 replacement hooks, as Aaron is a former MB Prostaffer.

The 1/2 oz bait would max out or in some cases overpower most ML rods

Depends on the brand but yeah I agree. I probably wouldn't throw a full sized 110 on my Zodias ML but my Megabass Orochi Whipsnake is a ML but isn't very soft at all. Most of the people I know who use spinning for jerkbaits use St Croix Victory or Megabass rods which tend to be on the stiffer side.

I use them on a medium baitcast rod that is designed for 110’s and I agree that they bend out fairly easily.  The only comment I would add to above is that I would stay close to the same size range.  They don’t seem to handle upsizing or heavier hooks very well.  I have a love hate relationship with 110’s, catch a lot of fish but my last 2 hooks buried in the hand were from 110’s.

I swap mine to Owner ST36s. I hate the outbarb design of the Katsuage hooks.

Agreed. Just be careful about how much weight you are gaining or losing when you swap on the hooks. The vision 110 is specifically tuned to suspend with the katsuage hooks.

A proper ML spinning is in order if your bending out hooks on up to 2 lb bass, at Clearlake where the ONETEN in various variants is my jerkbait of choice I have never bent out the factory hooks, and where talking about some fat footballs with fins.

A great rod for the standard ONETEN is the St. CROIX 6ft10 ML Xfast model in any series of your choosing, megabass makes a few models that are perfect also, I like the Rattle Viper Orochi xxx, it's also perfect for the ONETEN and the ONETEN JR.

It's definitely the rod your using though, if I'm not straightening out hooks on typical 4 to 6 lb Clearlake largemouth you definitely shouldn't be on 1-2 pounders.

I've never bent one on a fish either. I personally like the Katsuage hooks and replace them if needed.

I watch a TON of YouTube and Tactical Bassin's Matt Allen recommends these:

MEGABASS VISION 110 HOOK UPGRADES...

  • Split Ring Replacement- Owner Hyperwire Black (Size 2)
  • 110 Replacement Hook- Gamakatsu Finesse Nano Treble (Size 5)
  • 110 Junior Replacement Hook- Gamakatsu 1X Black (Size eight) ?

I fish these baits often. The hooks are mostly bent when I use a pliers. I'm just not a big fan of the outbarb design (so use pliers more often) but have used VMC barbarians as replacements and like them. The light wire does not bother me. Just don't crank down the drag. I fish these on a M F spinning rod.

My new 110jr I bought today didn't have the outbarb design but they might be the most delicate hooks I've seen on a Bass bait.   A single hook from a Treble has already snapped clean off, and I was constantly having to bend hooks back on 1-3lb fish.   Granted there was many Spots in the mix.

I mean $20 it caught about 25 Bass this afternoon, on that end I'm tickled.   On the other hand, now I have to buy a set of replacement hooks after one outing.   Why can't they put stronger hooks on these?   Stronger doesn't always have to mean heavier.     I will say the hooks are beyond sharp, you cant even tie the bait on without bleeding.

I get it though now after only owning Shimano Flashboost, and various Jackall jerkbaits in terms of $15-20 baits.......those are close, but this bait has a magic that few baits in general have.   They charge these prices because the consumer will no doubt pay it.

I mean exactly, I thought this up until today for sure.

The other high dollar stuff suspends well, sticky JDM type hooks, great finishes, designs to increase casting distance, but man they don't have the magic in them like 110s or at least the 110jr I own.   I'll be buying a 110 along with hooks for the one I found for sure.

They are worth the price oddly enough I found out.

I use this exact rod with the stock megabass hooks and have no issues. paired with a 2500 size Shimano Nasci and 6-8 lb seaguar invisx.

Just an FYI, I contacted MegaBass about the hook breaking so quickly and if they sold spare hooks.

Quick reply, the rep said no they don't sell the hooks but is going to send me some replacements.

They'll keep getting lots of my fishing budget, stand up company.

Hook weight is critical to maintain stock performance. Stock hooks weigh 0.345 grams. Closest I have found are the Aaron Martens TGW Nano G-Finesse hooks at 0.337 grams for #6 and 0.392 grams for #5. I will mix and match depending on what I the bait to do (suspend, slow sink, slow rise)

Half a dozen replacement hooks arrived today in the mail, MegaBass is awesome!

I wonder why MegaBass stopped using the out barb hooks?

The current ones are so sticky it's incredibly.
