fishingtx Posted November 2, 2021 Posted November 2, 2021 2 hummingbird helix 10s 1 hummingbird solix 12 new boat has some kinks , but when the previous owner used all graphs were working. I take it on the water and the trolling motor mounted helix is not working, but the console helix and solix are. I bring the boat home put it in my garage and try to turn on the console mounts, neither of them turn on. Do you guys know what could be wrong? I can get the trolling motor to run and all of the boat components to work, but the graphs won't turn on. I think it could be the fact that it is in a garage. Could that be the case? may post pictures. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 2, 2021 Super User Posted November 2, 2021 Basics: are they connected to the ranking battery and are the power cords good. Are any inline fuses blown. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted November 2, 2021 Super User Posted November 2, 2021 Do you have a multi tester? You could check for continuity and voltage and rule the power cords out. It seems fishy that they'd just stop working. Is there a power switch somewhere (not on the graphs) like a main cut off or something? Can you ask the former owner about it? And don't be knocking the 'birds twelvey. 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted November 2, 2021 Super User Posted November 2, 2021 Modern depth finders are very sensitive to voltage drops. If the battery voltage drops below a certain point, they won’t operate. The main motor may still just start fine, but a weak battery won’t turn on the depth finder. Charge the battery up to full and try again. The battery might need to be changed if it doesn’t charge up fully. 2 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted November 2, 2021 Super User Posted November 2, 2021 It would help to get a multi tester. Harbor Freight has them for under $15. https://www.harborfreight.com/7-function-digital-multimeter-63759.html Quote
NavyToad Posted November 2, 2021 Posted November 2, 2021 IF they were working for the previous owner, clean and re-seat ALL the connectors. I worked in Aviation Electronics for 40 years. Even if they hadn't been working for the previous owner, it's a good place to start. 1 Quote

Alex from GA Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Get a multi meter anyway and learn how to use it. It'll always come in handy. 1 Quote
