Suggestions needed...bought Steez and they sent me the wrong rod...

Ok so I bought a Steez at 50% off from sierra.  They advertised as a 6'9M rod but when I received it, I got a 7'4"XH rod (stz741xhfb-ags).  So my question is...what do you think I should do?  It's still in the plastic wrap.  I have read that it's an amazing frog rod, but I typically use a shorter rod for frog since most of the areas I fish aren't that heavy to get fish out of and I prefer a shorter rod to work the frog.  I have also heard it's pretty sensitive so maybe I could use it as a dedicated pitch/flip rod.  There's just not much info out there on this rod.  The place I bought it from doesn't have any more Steez rods (or anything even comparable).  They have offered to give me a refund but I got it at such a great deal, I want to explore all my options first.  I was planning to use this rod as a good, light moving bait rod but I don't have a huge need for that.  So what would you do?  Return it, sell it on the forsale forum page, ebay, or keep it?  Any other ideas?  I don't have any major needs for rods right now...but could always replace one of my moving bait rods with a steez.  Anyone have any history with this rod? Thanks for your thoughts!

Return it. It's not what you bought and you don't have much use for it.

That was either a brain dead mistake or a stupid assumption on their part that you would want any Steeze they had in stock.

I would take the refund and make sure they pay shipping costs. Even if it is 50% off thats still a really expensive rod, and black friday is right around the corner, you can probably find something you like even more for your purpose at a cheaper price, unless you really really like it, id turn it back in.

I guess what I was really hoping for, was to hear from someone who has used the rod and can give some feedback.  Anyone ever use this rod?  Is it a good bottom contact or flippin/pitchin rod? Thanks

Don’t try to rationalize a vendor error.  Keep it if you would have elected it on its own merits. Otherwise, it’s a utilitarian error to keep it.

But its a $550 rod that I got for $250…soo if’s better than one of my current rods…then I would rather bounce that one. Make sense? So I’m just trying to see if anyone has used this rod and what they think of it.

It's designed to be first and foremost a frogging rod. It's also good for baitballs and even mid-sized swimbaits since it has a higher weight limit. You could definitely flip heavy cover with it s well.

I only have the Tatula version, but it's a really good frog rod, has all the power to pull them out of the thick slop and casts the 2.25" LiveTargets quite well too (which is my go to frog).

If you fishing from the bank only, I don't see where this rod would be much help but from a boat, it would be a keeper.

Definitely fish from a boat. Why would you consider it a keeper? Any experience with this rod? Thanks

I've decided to keep mine as a A-rig/pitching rod.  If you want to sell it, I am sure some members in the forum would definitely be interested.

Cool! Have you had a chance to use it yet? Pretty good sensitivity?

Had the same issue and decided to keep mine since it’s a great rod at a great price. I’ll use mine for pitching and some light punching, but I’ve had it out already throwing some jigs and some t-rigged plastics on it and it has performed well so far.

It it’s not what you wanted and it’s upsetting enough, return it. If you think it would be a fine addition to your arsenal but were going to get later then maybe keep it. I get the discounted price. You could even turn around and sell it for 75% of value. You get your money back and then some.

just speaking from experience. A local shop was selling Shimano Crucials for $60. There were 3. I bought one knowing was a steal. I’m thinking, yes! I scored!! Halfway home it donned me. You fool. Go get the other two. Even if you sold them for $100, both you and the buyer would come out winners. So I hightailed it back to the shop. Guess what? They were gone — lesson learned.

For that price, I would not sell the rod.  Even though it is an XH, I suspect it is very light for its power.  I'd use it for frogs, jigs, C-rigs.  If it is too heavy for some of those tactics then use it for punching.  If after a couple months you don't have a need for it, sell it.  For that price you'll be able to get your money back.   But I suspect you'll like it for something.  My Steez spinning rod is the best rod I have ever used and I am planning on getting more of the new series.  Good luck.

I think you are the winner. I think that's a good idea...use it for a few times...then if it's not good enough to bump any others out...sell it for a small profit or at least break even.  Thanks! I have a feeling it will work great...just wish it was what I ordered ha.  Thanks again to all who gave suggestions!
