Mr. Aquarium Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Would you guys fish an unsettled pattern. In Ma we had a monster Nor’easter winds blowing 80 mph , winds finally dying down and no rain but getting another storm this weekend. would it be worth it to fish the weather window? 1 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted October 28, 2021 Super User Posted October 28, 2021 Who can say? I know there are "rules" for what type of weather fish bite in, and what type of weather they don't. But I've seen enough days that break those rules that I don't worry too much about them. In the general, long term sense, I bet they hold up statistically. But as for predicting what will happen on single day in a vacuum, I don't think they're much use. I typically just go fishing when I can and figure out once I've been on the water if they're biting or not. I use the "rules" more for excuses after the fact than excuses beforehand. 3 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted October 28, 2021 Super User Posted October 28, 2021 There are a few weather events I pay attention to. Wind speed and direction, pre-post front relating to barometric pressure and moon phase. Wind speed is the only thing that will keep me off the water. Safety is always first. 3 Quote

Mr. Aquarium Posted October 28, 2021 Author Posted October 28, 2021 Yes up here in Coastal Ma we had cat 1 hurricane! Floods, many trees down. Power will be out for a few days. Tomorrow I have a weather window before another one rolls in tomorrow night and Saturday, not as bad tho. Winds will die down. 1 Quote
thediscochef Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 if I can get my lure where I want it, I don't worry about what else may be happening. Got my first double-digit drum today in 20mph with gusts to 35. The wind helped me get some distance in the right way; I also credit it for pushing all the baitfish up into the cove. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 If you can safely fish, I would. I've figured out how to cope(SpotLock) with the wind and prefer fishing in it. Yesterday morning below was almost perfect at 8 - 10 mph. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 There are no rules . Just go fishing . Many a times I went the day after cold stormy , rainy days and caught bunches . Happened just last week . 6 inched of rain in two days . I caught two dozen on the bright cloudless day following . 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 The best time to go fishing is anytime you can go fishing! 5 Quote

Wow impressive! 6 inches of rain in 2 days. Then smashed them! I Guess rising water helps’ Quote
Super User gim Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 Pre frontal conditions are usually better than post front...or no front. In this case, it sounds you would be fishing in both post front and pre front because one just passed and another one is coming. Low pressure is almost always better than high pressure and I'm sure you have low pressure so I would go fishing as long as the wind isn't blowing at 80 mph. 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 Oh, I forgot one……tide……I have never in my life seen fish turn off like they do in tidal bodies of water on the wrong tide. 1 Quote

Yes it’s calm downed today, going to sneak out after work for 2 hours before sunset and the rain Going to hit a small deep pond, I’ve caught fish when at least 75% of it is frozen and I’m in the yak. I’m fairly confident. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 No matter the weather , I am still going to fish in the same places " cover and structure" bass like to hang out at . Just have to keep experimenting and hope bites start happening . 2 Quote

I did OK. I'll be wading off the same western bank chucking heavier baits directly into the wind until the rain chases me out. Quote
