Hey folks!

I'm one of those guys that feels he has to carry every. Single. Lure. when I go fishing. I'm fighting that, but I can never tell what they'll want, and no offense, but y'all must give that bait monkey steroids. I always see something I feel I gotta get. Scuppernong, anyone?

That said, I'm sure there are folks out there who land monsters frequently with one rod, and a small case of lures. In that vein, what's on your list of every day lures?

If you can only carry (1) 5007 box, what are you putting in it, that will work in almost any season, water clarity/color, clear skies/cloudy/rainy, etc? They can be wake baits, jerk baits, inline spinners, frogs, crank baits, soft plastics, jigs, etc. Anything and everything, with the only limit of it fitting in a 5007 box. It'd be nice to be able to walk a bank more easily, casting as I go.

I have a 21 foot floating tackle box.  If I’m not going in my boat, I have a soft sided tackle bag that holds everything I need.  I can usually adjust it to cover the body of water I am going to by my past experience but here’s what I carry.  All of my baits/lures are in 3700 size boxes except for my Senko box which is double sided.  In addition to the Senko box I have a terminal tackle box that holds all weights and hooks, a crankbait box with all depths of cranks and jerkbaits, a plastics box that has all other plastics for dropshot, shakeyhead, Ned, etc. and a box dedicated to DShads (fluke style baits).  Bag fits neatly in a rear compartment and if I really had to I could carry it bank fishing but it is heavy.

So long as I can tear all the compartments out and make enough room for spinnerbaits, as many spinnerbaits as I can fit. Spinnerbait box?

Thats it

I used to carry everything too. Probably 25 yrs ago, I realized I never used even half of it. So for one 3700 box, I'll take plastic worms, weights/ hooks, spinnerbait, jig/trailers, spook and buzzbait, rattletrap. That's it. I still catch as many fish as I did years ago, and I'm.much more mobile now. If you've got the bite dialed in, you really don't need a huge amount of stuff.

@Mobasser What do you mean by, "bite dialed in?"

And how do you limit your soft plastic colors? I seem to carry 3 or 4 different colors. Not a ton, but then you factor in it's 3 colors for 5 different soft plastics, and it adds up quickly!

I wasn't aware that soft plastics were made in any colors besides Green Pumpkin and Black-Blue fleck.

Yea, I know. There are some days where bourbon blaze or motor oil just get hammered, though.

If you have a good idea of what the fish are hitting on, you've got the bite dialed in. It may be any number of baits. An example in my area during the hot summer, topwater early in the mornings, then plastic worms to finish the trip. If the day is overcast, topwater may work longer. If you know this, you can only carry lures that work during this time. You can adjust depending on the season

Wow.  You might have OCD issues.  The choice isn't between all or one.  Picking a handful of high confidence baits is also an option.

At least not yet.

Colors can be a huge choice, but I only carry three or four also. I've had good luck with purple, grape, blue, and black. Everyone has they're own choices, and it sometimes fun to try new colors also. It keeps things new and interesting.

A-Jay, at some point we've all been under his thumb. It takes a lot of willpower to break away from him, once he gets a hold of you.

I need a black and blue jig and a green pumpkin jackhammer.  I have not used any other lure since July of last year.

My messy house and shop say otherwise!

I do that, somewhat: saying I'm gonna stick with wake baits today. But, I end up carrying a bunch of them. Then, if they're not producing, I may leave those at home next trip, but bring 3 colors of trick worms.

I have a 3700 box for those times I don’t fish out of my boat. It contains two each…..shallow, med. and deep cranks, two blade bats, top waters, jigs and a small assortment of trailers. A spinnerbait is tied on to the only rod I bring.

i'm generally shorebound. I carry a double-sided plano 3449 with just about every type of form factor I like in it - pad crasher mini, whopper plopper 60, a 2-3" baby bass pop-r, a jointed bluegill, big chatterbaits (skirtless), little chatterbaits (skirtless), t-rig tackle, and general jigheads. My belt allows me to carry that, two weights of leader line, braid scissors, regular scissors, clippers, a scale, a small fish grips, and 10-15 totally different plastics. I also have a detachable water bottle holster if needed.  Depending on the place I'm fishing, it's 1-3 rods and a landing net+big fish grips. I've also forgotten that belt at home before and had 6 LMB in 45 minutes with a worn out stik-o split tail. All I really need is one spinning combo, one fresh lure, and if I'm careful I can catch plenty.
I honestly hardly ever switch out of the 1/8oz chatterbait - it will provoke a strike from just about *any* nearby predator fish that can get the hook in their mouth if I move it how they like it. Chartreuse with a baitfish bass pro split-tail stik-o rigged with the fins vertical tends to be the total killer for me this year. the fins vertical really accentuates the natural swimming motion of the chatterbait. I prefer the baitfish stik-o when it has more pearl and less smoke and glitter. If there's not fish around, though, it doesn't matter what I throw. It's not happening if they aren't there. "I fear the man who has thrown one lure 10,000 times over the man who has thrown 10,000 lures one time." -someone smart

Depends on where I going to fish.  I fish a creek where all I bring is a a few inline spinners, and two floating Rapala's.  I fish a lake where I bring more baits than I can fish in a lifetime.  The Bait Monkey Plays the what if game with me until I almost sink my kayak.  What if the water clears? What if I loose my best crankbait?  What if I loose my back up to my best crankbait?  What if they only want a certain color or size?  It is an endless game, that I can never win.  I should just tell the Monkey if they don't hit what I got, then they don't deserve to get caught, and I'm going to have a good time anyway.  The Monkey would die laughing if I ever said that.

I pack a large duffel, a small duffle and a gym bag for a weekend road trip.  There is no way I can go fishing with only a single 9x14 container for tackle.

I fish at about a 50/50 boat to shoreline fish ratio. When I fish out the boat I am a total junk fisherman who likes to tinker and try new stuff, therefore I pack way too much stuff. But when Im hoofing it, I’m starting to take less and less tackle. Im now just taking a few items with me. One to cover the top, middle and bottom of the water column. I adjust what I bring with what I think matches the seasonal patterns. But I find it more of a freeing experience to not be bogged down by a heavy bag and too many rods. Especially if you’re fishing familiar waters. You should know what they generally like to bite.

If I have to be limited I don't need a box.  A few frogs in my pocket and a bag of worms and tubes with the appropriate terminal tackle and I am fine.  It all can fit in a jacket pocket.  Adding a spinner bait would be my next grab but again when limited I would rather just frog fish.
