Smells like fish Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Just happened to see that there’s a Swiss Army knife called the Fisherman. It has a scaling blade with hook remover on the end, as well as the usual Victorinox knife components for 4 layers. The scissors will be handy with braid and the fish on the handle just sealed the deal. I’m gonna try to snag one this weekend. What is your ol faithful pocket knife and do you reach for it or do as the masses with scissors and multi plier tools? 1
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted October 28, 2021 Super User Posted October 28, 2021 Nothing beats a pair of Cuda scissors for cutting braid. I keep 3 pair on the boat. Needle nose for hook removal. 1
Super User Jig Man Posted October 28, 2021 Super User Posted October 28, 2021 Most of the time I carry my Uncle Henry Stockman but have others in the boat.
desmobob Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 I have my fishing-specific tools at hand when I'm fishing. I clip a Boomerang line snip to my belt or the D-ring on my pants or shorts and I have fishing pliers and a Boga grip in sheaths attached to my leaning post. I just have my normal every-day knife in my pocket; usually some model of a one-hand-opening folder from Benchmade or Emerson.

CountryboyinDC Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 I'm in a kayak or (less often these days) canoe. I have a NRS rescue knife on my PFD and usually my pocket knife in a dry bag with other things. I rarely use a pocket knife, though. I either use the Boomerang tool or kid's scissors.
Fishingmickey Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Leatherman Wave is usually riding on my side or in the pouch pocket of my kayak. I used a pair of the serrated medical scissors for cutting braid. FM
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 28, 2021 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2021 One I can open with one hand and don’t care to get wet 1
Skunkmaster-k Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 I always have my leatherman super tool 300 on my hip. Every time I leave home without it I regret that decision.
Super User Way2slow Posted October 28, 2021 Super User Posted October 28, 2021 I've pretty much always have a pocket knife one me, but rarely do I take it out of my pocket in a boat or near the water. I'm yet to find one that floats, and generally carry very nice pocket knives. I keep at least three Leatherman's in the boat, one for the front, one for the back and one in the dash. Over the years I've found out two Leatherman's don't float either. I also keep a couple pair of small scissors for braided lines.
Super User bulldog1935 Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 On the salt, it's a titanium carburized-edge neck knife - nips braid, also good for lunch, and you can rinse it in the bay. for extricating flies from cypress branches, CRKT M16 Compact, at 2.2 oz, is the very best single-hand shirt-pocket knife.

desmobob Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 One of my favorite little pocket knives (what I consider a true "pocket knife" rather than the "tactical folder" I usually carry) is an old knife made by Camillus in NY in the 1950s and 1960s and sold by Lipic as an advertising knife. They are readily available on the used market. It's larger than the typical pen knife that it looks like and is a little smaller than the average stockman type knife. It has that one additional blade that makes the knife extra-handy without being bulky or heavy: a combination screw driver and bottle opener. A little steel wool and Mother's polish will remove the advertising imprints on the scales, if desired. Here are a couple of them, one faux mother of pearl with advertising imprints removed and one white with the imprints intact. The white one was new in the package for $12, shipped. Their quality far exceeds anything in that price range today! Old-fashioned carbon steel... not for use in the salt. 2

Is that a V or chisel grind? Neat knife. I've tried a few neck knives but never really found one I liked. I'm a perspirer and need something very corrosion resistant. I'm guessing the titanium carburization takes care of that? 1

I really love this knife. @J Francho If you like mine specifically, feel free to borrow my photo to show him. 25 minutes ago, desmobob said: Is that a V or chisel grind? Neat knife. It's a V grind - carburized makes the edge a metal matrix composite with embedded carbonitride shark teeth. It's pretty much self-sharpening, and will take an edge - it won't cut you, but nips braid like a champ. I'm a metallurgist and licensed PE - this knife makes me all warm and fuzzy. 1 1

Super User DitchPanda Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 I usually carry a cheap old Gerber folder I've had for probably close to 15 years. Clip it to the inside of my pocket if I'm wearing jeans or wrangler cargo pants. This is not a refined knife by any means..it was less than $15 when I got it. Plus its carbon steel which means if its neglected it will rust easy. But with a little TLC it has lasted me a long time and because its carbon it seems to sharpen very easily.
Super User ATA Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 I checked the knife, Nothing special about it, I just purchase it because of fish logo on it. About me I have few knifes on me always, At very least I have a pocket knife and filet knife with me, And few in my car and more in home. This knifes are for cutting bait and gut the fishes so not using any in bass fishing. I use scissors for my braid cut Usually use a nail clipper for my lighter fluorocarbon lines and wire cuter for my big game saltwater. 1
Super User Boomstick Posted October 29, 2021 Super User Posted October 29, 2021 A few years ago, one of my kids bought me a KVD knife from Mustad that I would bring with me fishing and camping. It's small, fits well in my pocket but was surprisingly sharp - especially if I ever bother to sharpen it. And it has hook sharpeners in it. Unfortunately, I seem to have misplaced it a few months ago and haven't seen it since

Super User clayton86 Posted October 30, 2021 Super User Posted October 30, 2021 I carry the SOG Flash AT for a pocket knife everywhere fishing, hunting, just every day life. 1

I’ll have to try and find a pic of one. 12 hours ago, PressuredFishing said: Don't usually carry knife while fishing, only nail clippers I have a set of those hanging around my neck on a lanyard.
