I enjoy my gear and tackle collecting almost as much as I enjoy the act of fishing and catching fish. Everything about the sport is very good for my mind, heart, and soul.

if ya say so

Lowes today and bought some stuff I needed to do some work around the house.

I know from personal experience, if you went to Lows and bought five gallon buckets to catch the water from the leaks in your roof, you haven't defeated the Monkey.    You may have won a battle, but you haven't won the war.

My goal is to spend 0 dollars on tackle in 2022, and hopefully 0 dollars during Black Friday, etc. Wish me luck.

You've got to back off slowly. If you just go "Cold Monkey" it can shock your system and do irreversible damage. Instead of a 12 Step program, think 12 year program. Goodluck. I haven't hit rock bottom yet.

I might possibly have ordered a Tharp Meterman Special before bed last night. :computer-22:

The bait monkey is NEVER defeated - he merely goes dormant for a period of time before rearing his head once more announcing : "I'm Back" !!

That won't happen. I just bought a truck about six weeks ago. That has me far enough in debt right now.

Congratulations on your new truck! Did the same last year with a new truck, so I can definitely relate. However, I should mention it is really nice to be pulling a new boat with it ?. Again, congrats on the new ride

I've done well this year with bass fishing gear...in fact I think I have spent more on buying tackle for other people than I have for myself, a buddy of mine's dad made jokes for 10 days during my visit about stealing my cabelas advanced angler bag so I sent him one, and another friend of mine foolishly decided to ask me to teach him to fish because his kids had been asking to go, I asked him 3 times on different days if he was sure that he wanted me to show him where the rabbit hole was, and I even asked his wife a couple of times...poor guy.

My salmon/steelhead and fly gear is another matter though...and we aren't going to include that in this discussion ?

I cured the bait monkey with a healthy dose of Rage Tail Menace Grubs. I'm good now.

The tackle monkey though is another story and is not so easily defeated.

Thank you. It is not brand new. It is a 2019 model F 150. If you and @T-Billy want to get together and buy me a new boat to pull that will be fine. Since I'm sure that won't happen my old 1998 Bass Tracker will have to look good behind the truck. LOL

? You're fish'n out of a first class rig compared to my 74 14' Smokercraft. I got the greenlight from the warden to buy a new boat, but not until we find a house and get that financing out of the way. Nothing like house hunting in the worst buyers market in like 60 years. Might take awhile.

Now I'm starting to worry. I found out today I'm out of some stuff I need for my weed eater and blower. The problem is where I get this stuff is right by our local tackle shop. The trick will be to get what I need and not walk to doors down to the tackle shop. I never new the bait monkey messed with lawn equipment.

The monkey works in mysterious ways.

Bait monkey has been defeated until black friday. Of course that may be his way of just convincing me to spend more because there's a sale. I'm curious about the following:

Hildebrandt Okeechobee Special Colorado Willow - Tackle Warehouse

Picasso Invizwire Pro Willow Indiana Spinnerbaits - Tackle Warehouse

Mann's Hank Parker Classic Colorado/Indiana Spinnerbait - Tackle Warehouse

Omega Genesis Ti Spinnerbait - Tackle Warehouse

Luck-E-Strike Rick Clunn Trickster Spinnerbait - Tackle Warehouse

Stanley Vibra-Wedge Spinnerbaits - Tackle Warehouse

Anyone else know about these spinnerbaits or used em? There would be some blade changing going on but a couple of these have interesting mechanisms allowing you to make blade changes easier. The Omega Genesis Ti is especially very interesting but I'm concerned that this lure might be an attempt to catch fisherman. The quick changing clevis is an innovative idea seemingly..... but how does it affect the lure?? Hmmmm

I've done relatively well with the Picasso pro in double willow.  It's one that only really worked for me on a slow roll.  Burning makes it track poorly.  Recently a fat 40" pike destroyed my only one.  Not sure if I'll replace it, but I will try the head as non-weedguard swimjig this fall.  The TN shad head/skirt and a D walker silverside pair up really well.  I like the vibra wedge and am about to get a couple more in 1/2oz.  That's the extent of my limited experience.

Yard work is for people that don't fish.  Skip the lawn equipment store, go straight for the tackle shop.

I got what I needed for my lawn equipment today. The wife and I were out doing several things we needed to do. I didn't want to leave her sitting in the truck while I was tackle shopping so I didn't even try to get in the tackle shop.

Nothing stops the bait monkey like having the wife with you.

So in college I’m a little more independent from parents obviously but I’ve found the trick to solving this if my tackle spending habits ever get brought up: remind her that the money could have been spent on alcohol or drugs ??. Not that I care how people spend their money or that I disapprove of these things, but this technique is certified to at least win you some favor with your mom.

I’ll for sure use this!

*I've done two (2) rehab stints at Restful Meadows in the fishing ward to get a handle on the Bait Monkey ... After I was released the Bait Monkey re-entered my life once more , so I have learned you can only hope to curb the Bait Monkey's appetite and not try to eradicate him altogether .
