A-Rig Question

Something I've never done, but have been questioning that decision, is using an A-Rig in the fall. I would think that one would be a good choice now as the bass should be targeting schools of baitfish.  Are they just a bad choice for a fall presentation, or do we just not hear about their use by the pros in the fall?

The A-rig represents a tight school of shad in the fall so your lake should have schooling baitfish to be successful.

The pre spawn and fall transition periods work best for A-rigs where I fish.

Keep in mind A-rigs require a rod, reel and line capable of casting the rig. You can get by with medium heavy swimbait rod rated 1 to 3 oz. I used IROD IRG 754F Magic Stick for 3 swimmer A-rig using 25lb on Armillo line.

Right now through early spring is when you should be fishing one.

I don’t usually have much luck with them until later on.  Generally speaking it is December through March for me.

Remember, it was late October on Guntersville when Elias brought the bait to everyone’s attention, and it won events week after week, through all of fall and into winter. Starting to just see guys pulling them out here. It’s about to go down.

I actually haven't thrown one since the spring of '19 and that was actually the only time I tried one.  Never did much research on them.  Thanks for the insight.

IROD makes a great 1-4oz a-rig rod. Was throwing it enough to get a dedicated rod... If I'm slinging $40 worth of lure I might as well get the right rod for it. 

Works in summer if they are active and chasing, caught my first 3-fer recently. Was kind of disappointed, it was so heavy I thought surely it was a DD. Nope, just three combined that went over 10. 

 

While we are on it, pay up for your a-rigs. Sometimes the hardware is a little low end. G-funk is the best one I've found so far. Big Daddy Dayton (or something like that, on TW) hardware has failed on me, and there's no way to contact them w/o facebook, which 100% I won't do. I'll never know just how big that fish that busted a swivel really was, happened on the strike  

 

Still looking for more resources to get smarter on the a-rig, post em if you got em.

We caught over 100 fish on an Arig Yesterday. I throw the yumbrella flash mob jr as it is readily available and not too pricey.  They hold up pretty well too.  Hog Farmers makes the best on the market, but they aren’t cheap.  I throw it October through May.  Cast, let it sink to the bottom and slow roll it in.  We had two triples and a lot of doubles yesterday.  It’s one of my favorite ways to fish.

I use 3" keitech easy shiners on the top two, and 4" keitech swibaits on the middle and bottom, all on owner 1/8oz belly weighted hooks.

 

As stated, throw out, let it sink, steady retrieve.

My favorite is G funk in non bladed, cali rig.  For reasons I don't understand, it just produces for me better in the clear water I'm fishing.  I also let it hit bottom, rip it up, and slow crawl it with sporadic reel chops.  7'7" and 7'9" rods definitely help me get the casts I want.

This thread has convinced me to tie on the A Rig again. My multipurpose rod is seasonal and I'm about to take off the frog. Which leaves the choice of big jig or A Rig. I still have yet to catch anything on the A-Rig so I'll go that route and I'm really hoping not many people around me are throwing them in public ponds so they havent seen them much or at all.
