Jmcdonald Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 WOW what a horrible day!! I took the boat to the shop last week to have the carbs cleaned out and it tuned up. Well we headed out yesterday morning. First we hit a dog on the way there..... killed it. Then we get to the water and launch and the motor wont start. We took the boat back to the shop I had it fixed at and he gets it to start right up. We didn't have it trimmed down all the way. (the trim is having problems) We took it back to the lake and it started right up. We drove down about 1 mile and the trim and the throttle is messing up really bad. We couldn't get it on plane due to these issues. A little voice in my head was saying turn around and call it a day but we didn't. We start fishing and I get hung up in some brush so I troll over and get the boat stuck in the brush. We tried to start the motor and it wont start. Both our our tempers are high and my friend and I just blow up on each other..... We calm down and finally after an hour later and two batteries later we get the motor started we head back to the ramp and load the boat and head to the house. The boat goes back to the shop on Saturday and hopefully he can get it running right... I hope all of you that went out this past weekend had a better time than us! ;D Quote
Carrington Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 i bought a used boat and i am about to replace the trim controlls on the throttle handle soon because they dont work, hopefully i wont have the problems you had. Quote
Radical Conservative Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Don't feel bad brother! Always good to get the kinks worked out before tournament day. We took the boat out yesterday to make sure everything was tip-top. Blew a tire on the way there. And had problems with the tilt/trim relay. And on top of that, the fishin' sucked! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 8, 2010 Super User Posted March 8, 2010 you might want to think about changing mechanics. I know it will cost you more, but piece of mind means a lot. This guy may not know as much as he is telling you. Quote

Jmcdonald Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 I got the boat from my father-in-law and the boat has sat for 7 years in the weather.(He didn't keep it covered) I was really lucky all the floors are solid with no weak spots. My son and I spent 3 days just cleaning the leaves and pine needles out of the boat. Its a really sharp looking boat once we got it cleaned up. (1987 Stratos 375-v with a 1975 Johnson 115) The boat still needs some wiring work but everything seems to work OK. I was just disappointed that I had just spent $600 to get the motor running right and we took it out and it ran like crap! I don't plan on doing any tourney fishing. I just want to take my boy (hes 8) fishing. He really wanted to go with us Saturday and it was really hard seeing him crying when i driving down the driveway. It was a good thing he didn't go this time. It was funny when I got home and told him about the bad day. He said "I think we should buy a new bass boat" I agreed with him but my wife didn't like that idea.... I sure things will get better when we get all the bugs worked out. Joe Quote
