WIII-60 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 We're going to be re-carpeting a 17' Nitro. I'd like to put down some anti-fatigue matting under the new carpet. Similar to what most new boats have. I've found one brand called pro-tech. It's around $10 a square foot. Anyone know of more brands? Anyone have experience installing this stuff? Quote
simplejoe Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 My last boat I went to Staple's and bought a mat for $20. Here it is: http://www.staples.com/Apache-Mills-Vinyl-Foam-Anti-Fatigue-Floor-Mat-27-x-36-Black/product_590259?cmArea=SEARCH Quote
WIII-60 Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 Nice! Thanks sir. I was looking for something on the cheap like that. I was reading all the high-speed literature on pre-cut boat mats thinking, "so why is this $9 a foot?." Quote
Super User cart7t Posted March 7, 2010 Super User Posted March 7, 2010 Lowes has stuff called anti-fatigue matting. Here's the stuff I used on my deck/recarpet job. Here's the finished job. It comes on a roll back in the carpet department. IIRC, 3 feet wide. $4 a foot. Cuts easily. Quote
WIII-60 Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 Cool. I like that idea even better. So, did you glue the mat down and then glue the carpet to the mat? Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 8, 2010 Super User Posted March 8, 2010 If I ever do the carpet in my boat again it will definately have the mat installed. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted March 8, 2010 Super User Posted March 8, 2010 Cool. I like that idea even better. So, did you glue the mat down and then glue the carpet to the mat? Yep. Used standard Henry's carpet glue. Glue down the matting. I put a sheet of plywood across the top of it with bricks on that to weight it down. (Didn't want any indentations in it when it set up). As you can see, I didn't go all the way to the outside edges of the deck. At the deck/mat joint I put cut a slight bevel on the matting to make the transition smoother. Thoroughly glop the Henry's on the matting. After laying the carpet out onto the glue, you really want to work the carpet to the outside edges. At the deck/mat joint I tacked staples there in order to hold the carpet tight into the glue at the joint. I removed the staples later. Again, I layed a plywood sheet with bricks on top to make sure the carpet layed tight to the matting without creating indentations. Good luck. Quote
