So you’re south Florida bound, what 3 rods and what 3 lures you taking? As much or as little detail as you like. I know it’s not realistic it’s just an exercise, a job opportunity may take me there in the near future. Thanks all.

Sure I'll play. I pay attention to what Captain Phil has to say on here so probably a spinnerbait rod, a flipping/punching rod, and a rod to throw a nice devils horse on

Burner Worms

i am very partial to the gambler burner worm. I think it's an absolute winner. My favorite bait on a light t-rig.

Angling opportunities vary greatly in South Florida.  Everything from neighborhood canals and rock pits to Lake Okeechobee.  Many you can fish walking the bank.  You will need a spinning rod with 10 pound line and a casting rod with 20.  You can use the spinning rod for worms and light lures.  Some of the water is clear, some is stained.  The casting rod can be used for areas of thick cover.  The best all around basic worm is the Zoom Trick worm in black or June Bug. For canal and rock pit fishing I throw worms with an 1/8 oz. Texas rig.  In the spring a wacky worm is deadly.   Top water fishing in South Florida can be excellent, especially in the Everglades. Spinnerbaits and Rattle Traps too.  The best bass fishing is in the spring when the water is low. It's nothing to catch 100 bass a day during a drought.  Lake Okeechobee is a world all to itself.   You will need a boat to fish it.  Everything works in South Florida if you know how to use it.  In the past twenty years, exotics have been introduced.  Peacock bass from South America are growing to decent size.  Some canals are full of them.  Every now and then you will hook a snook or a tarpon.  I have seen 40 pound snook and 100 pound tarpon swimming with bass while fishing that area.  South Florida is very congested.  Draining the swamp opened up a lot of good fishing.  If you have any questions, let me know.

I would stop by my friends house in the Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area where I have a tackle bag and lures for bass and inshore snook and reds and go fish some Peace River canals and Webb Lake. Try out frogs, spooks, senkos and spinnerbait/swimbaits.

A bunch of money to pay a guide. LOL

If I'm on my own, I'm taking a Spook, a punch rig with several different weights and a lot of Senkos.

The Senko would be the backup if the others aren't working.

Will be going to Rolands on Okeechobee sometime in February again.  If I only had 3 rods which, by the way happened last year due to getting caught out in the middle of the lake and when a storm blew in, I lost 5 combos out of the boat when a strap broke, I was delegated to a DShad, a weightless Senko that shared the same rod, a spinning rod with braid that I rigged a punching Senko on and a casting rod that I threw a swimbait and chatterbait on.  I caught a lot of fish on those 3 setups.

I don’t think I could outrun a gater in water in any footwear. Hopefully I just goose the boat throttle.

snakes. Don’t bother me.

we have great white sharks where I go for rockfish.  In my vivid imagination:

shark>gator >snake.

I would definitely skip the bass and hit the salt. And if you want some stares while fishing use a baitcast reel.

You didn’t say where you’re going and fishing for what.
If fishing fir bass on The Lake (Okeechobee) you will need a boat.

One of these….
Frog

Prop bait

Horny Toad

In that order

One of these…

UV Speed Worm (June Bug)

Skinny Dipper (Houdini)

Fat Max ribbon tail (Red Shad)

In that order

One of these….

Punch Bait (your choice in June Bug)

Your favorite stick bait with pegged weight.

All of these and more as posted will be good choices no matter where you go.

Depends on where I'm fishing. If I'm taking the boat out on Okeechobee, I'm going to be rolling chatterbaits and spinnerbaits along grass edges, punching hydrilla mats and fishing frogs over mats/pads, so heavy or extra heavy frogging/flipping rods with 65lb braid for all three. If I'm just beating the banks around some neighborhood ponds and canals, I'd bring a Dobyns 705CB for lipless, a 6'10" M/XF for spooks and weightless senkos, and a 7' MH/F for chatterbaits/spinnerbaits.

Yes I use Daiwa and Abu Garcia coastal/inshore baitcasters and I always seem to be the only one not using spinning tackle.

But I would not skip the bass fishing, here in northern Indiana I bass over 5 lbs are rare and we had no problem catching 7 lbers.
